I'm getting similar at the moment.

Is your D2 driving well enough at the moment? Performance Ok?

These are the other things I've checked that I think can have an impact on diesel use

    • Fuel leaks at the fuel pump (none)
    • Exhaust leak before the turbo
    • Fuel leaks at the fuel filter (none)
    • Oil in the ecu loom (some, which I've cleaned, has made some improvement I think)
    • Sensor values using a Nanocom (MAF, MAP, AAP sensors, all within range for me)
    • Fuel Pressure Regulator - mine seems to have a bit of oil around underneath, but seems clean around the regulator.

Anyone got other ideas to check?

With nothing else to work on, I think I'm going to have to have a crack at the FPR at some stage, although it's a bastard of a job. I made the mistake of asking a dealer to fix it 18 months ago, and I suspect they didn't do the best job.

Of course, if your D2 is carrying a lot of weight, with a big roof rack, and you've got a heavy boot, that too can explain your diesel consumption.

    So that's 14.7 l /100km?

    What should it be ?

My (new to us) TD5 gets around 13.5 l/100km. Not sure if that is good or not.

I recall my old one being more like 10.5 l/100km.

Then again, that may have been to 300 Tdi manual D1

Yep, that's about right urban. I still get about 10.5L/100km on the highway.

They say 2 inch lift will add 2L/100km, mud tyres will add 2L/100km and a bull bar will add 2L/100km. I have all 3. When I bought it I did get under 10L/100km prior to the lift and with the 18 inch wheels with almost bald road tyres.

I managed 10.5L/100km crossing the Barkley Hwy from Qld to NT while towing a trailer. The trailer had 5 x 16 inch BFG MT tyres and wheel inside and a roof top tent and awning on top.

If you click the link, you should be able to see all my fuel ups and what I got from each.

You'll see at Nov 2013 was when I drove to Brisbane and bought my BFG MT tyres. So I went from 235/70-16 on my 16 inch rims and almost bald road tyres on my 18 inch wheels to 245/75-16 BFG MT tyres on my 16 inch rims and stripped the tyres off the 18 inch rims with canvas showing.

I was around that 12 > 18months ago and in the time until now I've had to replace the Serpentine Belt idler bearing, the Viscous Fan clutch, a rear hub assembly, and i decided to replace the injector harness because i had oil at the ECU plug and the end result is that I now average 10L/100km +/- .5L mixed urban and highway driving. I was also neglecting the woefully inadequate (small) airbox filter - actually i think that the latter might have been a significant contributer to my bad ecconomy. Hope that helps a little..

PS: I have a 50mm suspension lift and BFG All Terrain tyres

I can understand the filter affecting efficiency, but are you implying that the idler bearing or the viscous fan clutch could affect the fuel use as well?

I'd say the viscous fan clutch could for sure but I think you'd know if it was locked up all the time.

Hi Pinelli, sorry if it came across that I'm implying anything but that was not my intention ... i was wanting to give the idea that yes I've improved my fuel economy but i've also along the way I've changed so much in a short time that i couldn't pinpoint any one thing except that maybe the TD5 is almost as good as new AND i do lean towards the airbox filter as a likely key to my fuel economy improvement...

PS: .... and I forgot to mention the harmonic balancer around about September 2015, and no I'm not wealthy - I'm a Land Rover owner

    Hey onebob,

Which air filter were you using before?
