I gave my learner driver a go in the D1(his first too) a few months back and he did ok, considering the drunken roly-poly attitude of the D1.
He's not interested tho. Strange, considering his lineage .. in that I was 'driving' at age 12! .. and still can't get enough of it.
He's still reluctant/not interested with his learner lessons too, and every time I ask if we want to go for a drive to the country and he can get a chance to have another drive ... Nope!
Arthur.
All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

OK! So it is the fairer sex that has less patience.
I'll have to deal with my lil girls' impatience in a couple of years too then.
Quick short one:
about a year before young fella got his learners I took them out on a drive to the country. I knew of some good roads that no body uses. We wandered around a nice old ruin, took some photos, and headed off.
Asked the lil man if he wanted to have a try at driving. It'll be safe, no cars, take your time .. get a feel.
NUP!
(I just assumed that every teenage boy is anxious to have a drive of a car!)
Anyhow, refusal accepted, but then young 13 yo miss pipes up .. "I want a turn!"
I did point out to the lil midget that she couldn't reach the pedals yet!
ps. back on topic too .. I've done zero to my D2 V8 in the past 3 or 4 months. ie. get it prepped for getting it on the road. It's head gasket leak could be a cracked block/liner me thinks .. and I need to build a shed before I can do anything on the V8 .. just in case it turns into a possible cracked something.
The gravel pit(where the shed is going) is just starting to dry up enough where I can get the jack under the parts bomb to start removing stuff off it again. Hopefully I can safely get some stuff off it in the next week, now that it's not raining every other minute..

Took the 'pimp' wheels (255/55R18) off Daphne II today and fitted a second-hand set of standard 16" alloys with 245/70R16 Bridgestone Dueler A/Ts. Not my preferred choice of tyre but they'll do for the 50K km left on them.
Noticeable improvement in ride quality but still not as plush as the D1. Strangely, the tyre noise on coarse bitumen is worse - but then the fat Coopers were H/T Plus.
PS: Maybe it's wishful thinking but I thought the harshness at 2200rpm wasn't as bad either.
