Mine has those wheel nuts it's 18's .. the difference is that you list yours as a D2a(mine's a 2000).

They should be 1-1/16" socket, or possibly a 27mm socket.

1-1/16" is just a tad smaller than 27mm(26.9875mm) so a 27mm might be the better option in some instances.

Some of my capped wheel nuts fit the 1-1/16" socket perfectly, whereas other capped wheel nuts are a very tight fit, so that when you lever the socket off the nut, the cap usually slides off(and hence gets stuck in the socket).
I'm thinking that the ever so slightly larger 27mm fit socket may help to stop the sticking nut caps issue.

The bare nut(without the stainless cap) is a very tight fit with a 1" socket.

After dragging their knuckles across the ground ambling towards the wheels....

I use a 27mm impact socket and a breaker bar to do my wheel studs up, I use a cordless rattle gun to remove them.
The impact sockets are very strong and will survive a lot of abuse that a standard socket wont and they are Not that expensive either.

Yeah, I reckon what's damaged some of mine was probably the use of 12 point sockets on the capped nuts.

Like I said, my 1-1/16 socket has served me well from my RRC days back in the early 90's, and does it's duty perfectly on the D1 now.
And on the D2 with 18's and those capped nuts .. some fit and others don't and you can see slight edge damage on the caps of the ones that are ever so squeezy!
I reckon it may have been the use of either incorrect socket size by the average tyre place, or maybe the use of 12 point sockets slipping just enough to damage the corners.

On the D2 all three spare wheel nuts that haven't been damaged all fit the 1-1/16 socket perfectly [thumbsupbig]

Strangely. I made a trip down to the Kingchrome factory outlet (again!) today to get me some stuff, one of those stuff(s) was to find a 27mm socket(which I don't have).
The factory store/outlet is a seconds outlet, so they have bins full of sockets(eg. $5) and all manner of kits with some tools missing .. etc.
Rummaging through the bins of sockets for at least half an hour or so, and of the hundreds of sockets in each bin, d'ya reckon I could find even one 27mm(impact or not) .. nup! [bighmmm]
Total waste of time and effort, but I did get a few other tools I've wanted for a while.
(more annoyingly tho is that they didn't have a ratchet repair kit I was after! :bat:)

In Melb, low numbers( I think #2) Lakeview Dr, Scoresby.

If you have tools and looking to top up some bits and pieces, pretty good shop.
All seconds stuff tho .. I got a open ender/ratchet ring spanner kit, metric 8-19mm set, but the set was missing the 19mm spanner. $80. But you can get the entire kit on ebay for $130-ish .. so it's not a total bargain place.

If you wanted various impact sockets tho, they sounded quite cheap @ $10 a pop. Just that you have to rummage through the bins, and they are seconds or used or impacted in some way. Not broken, just scratched about a bit.

I think the various socket bins were priced $3, $5 and $10 or something like that.
