Ditch the "ciggy lighter thing" idea and simply use an Anderson plug as these are a FAR superior (and cheaper) connection.
Make sure that the cable is fused at both ends regardless of what connection you are using.

There is nothing worse than after driving all day to find that the ciggy lighter gizmo has fallen out (this happens all the time) and your beer is now hot in your fridge

Ditto ... i use MERIT PLUGS and SOCKETS for a secure 12v supply. Actually the first mod I did to my D2 way back in 2010 was to convert the rear auxiliary ciggy socket to a MERIT socket, it’s a 30 minute job requiring a sharp knife to modify the receptacle to accept the new socket and a spanner to secure the new socket in the receptacle.

Replaced the LHS outside mirror after one of the kids got too close to something. Aftermarket and really poor fit with the clips so expect it to fall out at some stage.
Cleared the 3 amigos with an intermittent fault on LH rear sensor - didn't have time to climb under and have a look.
Still need to attend to drivers window not working and apparently rear RH side as well.

What is this? Does it matter?

While trying to find why the driver's window won't lower I opened up up the centre console and now putting it back together I have this little feller with nowhere to go. Is it redundant OR belongs to a feature my car does not have OR needs to be connected to something I have not found yet?
    Thanks,
    Pete

Does your car have heated seats? The switches for them is in the centre console.

Yup, heated seats but the wiring and switches are quite separate to this little bloke. The cable is not long enough to reach to the switchbank for windows/heated seats. I've put it all back together agin and evertyjing is back to normal, so no closer to the mystery. I found that the window motor was seized. Dismantled it and unseized the back bush/bearing which had rusted up. The motor now works but it is very weak and needs a helping hand to get the glass up. Replacement motor ordered. Quite impressed that the siezed motor could take a few amps without blowing the fuse or burning up.

    Mansfield Base Camp

On Saturday we drove along Stony Creek Track. I forgot to lock the centre diff. The traction control did seem to be working harder.
Then drove across the Jamieson River. The river was very muddy and I could not see the 'ford' I ended up driving through a deeper part. Water came over the bonnet and into the heater box. I had a few drips of water on my feet!
I checked the air box and found a wet filter. My suspicions that the panel beater had not resealed the raised air uptake are confirmed. Luckily one of our group had a spare air filter.
The next day we drove to see Craig's Hut. The drive was so much more refined with the centre diff locked. I became a fan of the HDC and low range first gear for the steep descents. So much better than breaking too hard and locking up the wheels.

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

Nice trip that one - “driving through the brakes” is also a useful technique, one that I prefer over HDC.

Does that work on a manual?

    Oops!

Reversing the trailer oh so carefully and found a tree I didn't know I had. Just moved in.
Anyone have or know where I can find a decent 2nd hand LHF indicator assembly?
    Thanks,
    Pete
