If I’d have caught it prior to putting all that nice fresh oil in I’d have pulled the sump off.

It might be a chunk of the structural ribbing from the sump itself. There’s what appears to be a dent in it which is worrying. This engine got rebuilt before I owned the car so goodness knows what history applies here. I’m hoping it’s a bit of vibration / metal fatigue finishing off something prior to the rebuild.
Do you still have the old oil filter? Cut it open and look for metal fragments
    Also consider removing the sump.

My dear old mums 323 in about 1990 had a rag in the sump, from an engine exchange... cooked it due to lack oil... great for a 16 yo to strip it down and find out what happened!

Well it wasn't today - it was yesterday.

Towed a 2 tonne trailer to Kilsyth from Moe and back. According to the recorded Nanocom data the coolant temp never got above 96DegC. The Viscous fan works well too - every time we took off from a set of lights for about 15 seconds or so it sounded like some sort of tropical cyclone happening under the bonnet. The aircon kept us cool and comfy despite the car telling us that the outside temp was in the forties.
    Gotta be happy with that

I've attached the raw data from the trip down for those that like to play with such things.

Fortunately on the way back we came via Narre Warren and avoided the "gas bottle truck on its side" drama on Eastlink...

Not sure yet, I'm waiting for the front-loader to finish, but I can't find my only functional car key.
    Wish me luck, please.

It appears no worse for wear, just clean and shiny. In true Land Rover style, all terrain key.

It's good to know that the D2 keys can take a "Dunking" as I am paranoid I will bugger mine up when I put them on the boat

I'd be more worried about the actual metal key part falling out of the fob, happened to me once, lucky I found it in the scrub, so araldited the bugger back in to prevent it happening again, they can pull out as they are only clipped in.
