    It’s been a while since you posted and RTT seems to be incommunicado ATM.

    I think he is referring to his observations of the Td5 factory temp sensor vs the Davies Craig temp sensor that is installed in the top radiator hose and that despite their close proximity to each other they don’t agree. From memory the Davies Craig shows hotter temps. When RTT surfaces I’m sure he will correct or clarify.

    I just returned from Culburra today to the Central Coast , Avoca beach in my 2002 D2 TD5 auto.
    What a drive! drizzle , belting rain , clouds, floods everywhere.
    Anyway at about 22-24C ambient and towing my 1750Kg poptop, the temp on the flat at 100kmh was about 85C.
    The hottest it got was up Mt Ousley when some Richard Cranium in front of me slowed right down to 50Kmh at the start of the climb.
    It's pretty hard to gain speed and lock the trans when that happens.
    Anyway starting in second at the bottom I managed to get up to about 60Kmh in third unlocked at 3000RPM, in driving rain and ultimately cloud with little visibility.
    The temp gradually rose to 100C right at the top on my dry sensor adjacent to the wet sensor .
    Interesting side issue is that since fitting my new old VDO MAF my EGTs stayed well under 700C at about 18-19PSI boost. I also have taken several cross links out of my mesh grille and on this occasion have plugged my additional air cleaner inlet with my patented plug made from a pool filter plug. ( to reduce water inlet to the air cleaner element.)
    BTW my Viscous fan definitely cuts in at 94C. It is as clear as day when it does and unless really climbing the temp then drops to under 94 very quickly

    PS we tried two days ago but a landslide near Kiama closed Princes Hwy Northbound, went back to Nowra, tried Kangaroo valley and two landslides there. also Macquarie Pass was closed. So went back to Culburra

    Yeah Onebob was right, words sometimes sound strange written, but it would be great to see how others wet sensors compare against the TD5 sensor as to the temps recorded for comparison. Is the behavior I am seeing just due to the electric cooling system or is this just NORMAL, in a normal sort of way.

    I guess the first thing to do would be too verify that both sensors actually read the same when at the same temperature, as they may not, then from there you could work out what was happening.

    Sounds like a nice little trip! Re the 94C, haven't actually heard of a temp that the VF is supposed to kick in and would assume yours in well maintained. That said with the D2a have not actually heard or noticed the VF, hmmm must pay more attention me thinks. The air cleaner inlet sounds interesting, do tell.

    I got soundly rubbished and flamed when I posted this some time ago, but I still think at over 3000rpm there is quite a difference in air flow.

    Simply it is a piece of 2inch to 2.5 inch adaptor pipe cut to make a bellmouth at the merge, which I have placed through a drilled hole in the radiator support and bottom of aircleaner. Its a bit tricky as you have to insert the air cleaner to it's position initially then seal the pipe through the hole. So it get high pressure air from the front of the car for bitumin roads and light rain .

    I have driven the car in heavy rain then inspected the air filter element with no crumpling etc , but expecting torrential rain I blocked it up. I would also block it in dust and water crossings. It is quite simple to pop out the headlight and reach in. takes about 30 seconds.
    The block up is a pool filter plug lathed ( drill in vice and knife) down to a loose fit in the hole of the inlet, then placing a washer at each end with a bolt and butterfly nut which expands the plug to be tight. ( I got this idea from twin exhaust plugs that come with bull bags for my RRC)
    I have drilled some holes in the support in front of the radiator support and through the LH of the grille upright.
    If I don't get totally flamed again I will post some photos.

    OK there it is .
    Pop the headlight out for easy access.
    The drilled hole comes out in the corner of the air cleaner base.
    The holes in the headlight support and grille and the gap between the headlight and Grille give plenty of air.
    The reason for all this is that The UK tuners will not guarantee upgrades if a snorkel is fitted as it reduces airflow, so I thought I would try it for minimal cost.
    One person commented that the car was spoiled by the mod. REALLY? Especially seeing I still have my original unmolested grille.

    Different subject but you will notice the grille has horizontal wires removed. Even though the stainless wire I used was 74% void, I felt that perhaps the air was being restricted by turbulence around the wires. Funny that when I removed the wires, the head temperature went down about 1-2 degrees when cruising at say 100KPh so that it reads down to 80.5 vs 82 previously on glide down slopes. The sensor is insulated with BluTack over it but it points to more airflow.
