Head Lining Out and a finish on the horizon
Pretty painless removing the old headlining, scrubbed and jet washed will be refurbing and fitting tomorrow. Whilst it is out,
- new aerial for the Alpine - boosted for both the DAB and AM/FM and works better than the window fitting DAB by a long way -
- rear camera fitted to the underside of the Upper brake light wired to the front with a Toguard 12" display, able to wiped 'clean' by rear wiper
- USB power from the sunshield light attachment and relocated the EWP Controller to make it easier to see.
- Removed the two rearmost seat belts and headrests as never to run back seats again.
The sunroof drain above the drivers head was broken (other 3 where fine) and hence why the previous owner would have siliconed around the sunroof. Going to cut back the rubber and use the soldering iron to weld the bit back on and follow off with epoxy and fly wire
To finish off going to do a couple more things tomorrow;
- Run the Electric Brake Controller and mount it with the EWPC and Toguard Mirror
- Fitting the 315Mhz key controller as well to go with the SLS lowering PLIP from the US.
- Mounting the twin Engine guard up high with the EWPC etc.
- Fitting an electric water pump spout to just behind the back door for when I install the water tank.
- Run cameras for the Alpine unit which is two front mounted either side and rear reversing camera mounted just above the tow ball.
So the way I look at it now, after this will just be some cosmetic issues such as the handbrake and low range surrounds, fitting the upright fridge and Air Compressor while as I wait and see what happens with the 8 speed ZF. If that doesn't become available then will get the HD V8 torque convertor finally done and look forward to the next big trip.
Still unanswered questions

BMW N57 8hp to TD5 Auto adapter kit – Deposit | Online Gearbox Parts Shop
Missed the cut off date for the deposit which was about 3 weeks ago and have asked questions as to the mounts and cooler lines etc. which I am waiting on the answers for. The way I see it, the TD5 will last but the 4HP is the weak point for longevity and I don't want to get rid of the D2 for a long time it ticks too many boxes for me.
As far as I can ascertain the 8HP is much more robust than the 6 and of course basically no torque limit as far as the TD5 is concerned, gee could even turn up the boost without getting Mario and Stan flashing me when accelerating, well they could but they wont be putting the auto into third and keeping it there till turning off and back on again!

Headlining done! Sunroof repair of excellence.
Installed the 315Mhz receiver and hooked up the keys via Nanocom, the lowering works very well and is pretty quick as well

Had a few little issues with the covering and the job is only about 90% if I am honest but no hanging roof lining is a blessing. The foam surround for the rear aircon ducts was totally disintegrated and as this is not a people carrier have not replaced them but the ducts don't sit proper. The actual job of replacing the headlining was not as daunting as first thought and a bit more care when contact adhesive is applied and stretching out and pressure from the middle to the edge.
The sunroof repair of the driver drain I am more than pleased with. Took out the corner and as there was not quite enough to weld we went a different tack and one I would recommend for the ease and integrity of the repair.
The pics are not available but basically we drilled out the hole to push through some copper pipe with a flange from the inside out of the corner unit, about an 1" or so and then siliconed in the corner again and attached the pipe to the copper and a bit more silicon to be sure. Had to flatten part of the flange as the roundness of the flange would not sit in the corner at the base of the insert, the whole repair was only about 10 minutes or so. Will try and repair the pictures if I can.
