This is the hose at the Auto transmission oil cooler.

Less than one year ago at big inspection I had a good wiggle at both of these connectors and hoses there. And both have been tight. So I decided not to change them and not to buy these tubes as spare.
Now i had to wait more than a week to get them delivered.

Changing itself for both was a job for little less than an hour. Today I bought fresh oil and will refill everything. Hope to see my Disco moving this evening.

Took the diffs out today to fit the ATB and Air Locker and 4.37's it was a tale of two diffies, one pristine the other darker than a socialites mood on hearing there is another 'lockdown'.

The front diffs oil came out stinky and black, the rear clear and nice. When putting them up on the bench was surprised to hear a clink in the front one and low and behold the cross pin was just floating. Did not hear a sound out of the diff at any time

How would the difference in oil be accounted for, both diffs changed together, is the pin resting on the inner of the crown wheel enough to cause it?

When I changed the diff oil in my new to me D2 a little while back, it was the same story with the oil. I assumed it was due to the previous DIY owner using a "part time 4wd" approach to changing diff oils i.e. change the rear and forget the front.

You got me worried now my front diff might be about to fall apart!

It's de olde excessive wheelspin.

The lube fails the pin grabs, the circlip spits out and usually BANG!

You should also maybe worry about the centre diff shims if someone wheelspun with the CDL disengaged.

You should buy some lottery tickets, or maybe not as you have used your quota of luck.

Could be a slight fail in the axle seal(s)
Have you checked deep inside the axles a few inches inward of the CVs?
Theres a teeny seal exposed to the outside world.
Maybe if this has a bit of a leak could be grime getting in.

Dunno, just a thought.

I'd be confident it was just old oil. No evidence of water and the right amount of oil drained out.

Can assure you, there was no noise from the diff at all and smell of the cooked oil was awful, suppose it is well worth checking out due to the fact of no other showing of the problem!

Ha, the fact the 2nd hand ARB locking diff did not fit - P38 diff it turns out and the ambiguous literature from ARB seemed assured it would fit into Aussie D2s not just D2A's - my quota of luck did run out!! Just ordered an Ashcroft ATB as replacement so ATB's front and rear, happy with the outcome actually. Take it the pin heats up post the circlip spitting out by rubbing on the crown wheel?

Went fishing for the circlip with an old nightie (not mine) shoved down the axle tube, did not find a skerrick of it, assumed it must of been pulverized by the gear set.

Centre diff, hmmm, just fitted the CDL mechanism today as well, is there a tell tale sign of the diff shims I should be looking out for or just wait for A SIGN?

These hadn't leaked previously, but as we did the boots on the front end a couple of weeks ago we must have dislodged the passenger side as when the wheel was removed yesterday was wet with oil. Since then it had only done about 100Ks. The Ashcroft HD axles are going in with new seals for both sides. The upgraded CV's are seriously meaty and if I break one of them, I am in over my head.

The only sign that I know of is a lot of slop in the centre diff.

When it is dismantled you will see a great deal of bronze swarf in the recess at the nose of the diff. It doesn't seem to work to the back and come out of the drain plug as there is a sort of reservoir in the bottom of the nose.
And of course non existent bronze shims.
I only know this as I bought a CDL nose for my non CDL 2002 transfer and swapped the noses using my diff and bearing to get the mechanism. It was full of swarf and very depleted bronze shims. My centre diff was fine as it was an urban car.
