I call it the widow maker as they can be dangerous. I use one as the last resort. Then with extreme care. I welcome the adverse comments as these may encourage people to use these very very very carefully.
Oh as for what happened, I am in the process of removing the rear shelves, cargo barrier etc, turning it back to a 'normal' car, as I am not going any where until Dansaster tells me it is ok.

Well today I changed the transmission cooler pipes.
What a bitch of a job.
So far I have spent about9 hours.
It didn't help that the top pipe on the transmission had been tightened by a gorilla.
I spent a lot of time making or modifying tools.
I just jacked up the front and put it on axle stands. I don't know if a hoist would make the job easier as I found I had to go from bottom to top many times and had to stand on a caravan step to reach stuff.
I ended up being successful with a crows foot spanner on an extension which was cut down to just fit between the floor and the transmission. this moved it a teensy bit so then I used a cut down 19MM open ended spanner to loosen it.
I must have tried to thread the new bottom hose on the transmission 100 times and on the 101st it started. The trick was to tie the pipe to the mounting points so that I could push the pipe forward. Yet the top one started first try.
I was lucky to notice that there was no oring on the old top pipe end. I used a lit mirror then a borescope to see that the oring was still inside the transmission. AAAGGH! I then cut a dental pick in two and was able to fish it out first go.
Funnily enough removing the quick connects on the cooler was the easiest part. just push and pull and bob's your uncle.
I had to take off just about every plastic cover on the car and the front driveshaft.
As of now the pipes are on and sealed. Those new quick connects certainly take a bit of pressure to make them click.
If I did it again it would take half the time but god willing it will last me out. I now have all the "special tools" needed. I spent about an hour or so making a 11/16 pipe spanner into a 19MM one and then it wouldn't work. The top pipe is so close to the XYZ switch and the bell housing you cannot get a spanner on it. The only thing that works is a crows foot to start the undo and even then I had to take 5MM off an extension to fit between the pipe and the floor..
Just make sure you look at the routing of the RH hose as it goes over the steering box as I didn't take enough notice and I wasted about an hour figuring out the only way it fits.
Now all I have to do tomorrow Is refit the brackets that hold the pipes take off the transmission sump, replace the filter, refill and then put all the plastic panels back on.

As you can see the LH pipe has partially come out of the swage and was slightly leaking.
NOT long to go IMHO.
The RH pipe is perfect.
From reports I have seen the LH pipe seems to be the one that goes.
I think it is the hot pipe as the sensor is on The RH side presumably after the cooler.
So the **** of a job was maybe worth it.
All finished now and the transmission took almost 8 litres so that dribble down overnight was significant.

Touched up the scratches with Chawton White paint. Does not look the same shade. Maybe it's 17 years of solar UV!
Removed and cleaned out the the intercooler. Then a couple of hours after ordered an allisport one... Get to go through the process again.
Also decided I will buy a vnt turbo. Deciding to wait on seeing if the alive tuning on is released any time soon or just get a turbo technics.
Have you installed a Provent or similar? If so this will be the last time you will clean the inter-cooler.Quote:

The cargo barrier is held by what I think is a Posidriv screw and nut. The screw is enormous. See the 15 mm for scale. Any idea what size?

Yep, it's a Pozi and it's big!
Sorry i can't help with the size and even less help is that I've probably got one in my 1/4 drive hex/torx/Pozi/Phillips set.
After getting home from a callout put the big charger back on the battery for a few hours, I don't think the trickle charger is working.
Looks like its time for Ctek
Replaced the front cam seal that'd been siliconed in by the PO.
Pretty easy cleanup, a bit of O ring lube and in slid the new plug seal.
Investigated the oil leak at the back of the head and pretty sure it's the half moon seal that is probably only 12-18 months old.
I don't think it'd been pushed home properly. A big dose of carby cleaner, half peeled it out, more carby cleaner and reseated it.
We'll see how that goes.
Measured up a few threads for new nylocs and measured the pcd to make a fan hub holding tool and made a note of a few gaskets plus gasket material I must sort and buy this week.
