What happened to your Discovery 2 today?

The oil was removed, via the dipstick tube and a pump. The centripetal filter was changed. No problems.
The full flow filter, **** me drunk. It seemed so much harder to remove the filter this year. Putting the new one in!! I (destructively) removed the turbo heat shield, to improve access, was slow and painful. Eventually it was in and tightened. I had to use the oil filter pliers to remove the cap of the 10L oil container. Penrite 5W40, if any one is interested. My hands do not have the muscle power they used to.
Tomorrow is the fuel filter. Air filter also changed.

Yeah, the Td5 oil filtration system is awesome, but the location and access to the full flow filter is nothing short of sadistic and messy.

I got rid of the awesomeness part so now I can access the normalness part much easier. And I swear my quarter mile time improved by 0.001 of a second without the weight of the centrifuge housing !

You should try it with an ARB battery tray there as well!
BTW Mahle filters are a little shorter than others EG Cooper so are a bit easier to remove. You can get a dimple type strap tool under to start the loosening.

I found the best way to begin to remove a slightly stuck filter is using an old rubbery strap( old serpentine belt in my case) to help it with the initial stickiness.

We've(bro and I) found that sometimes they seem to get randomly tighter for some reason .. or not.
Last time it came loose by hand, but other times they just won't budge! .. totally annoying .. so hence why the belt method.

But next service will be the last time it ever gives either of us grief.
I purchased a remote relocating kit for it(off ebay). Plan on placing it on the firewall, and forever make it easier to change.

Yeah, they're quite cheap on ebay.
Aluminium head/body, and filter replacing doodad.

Comes with just the threads for your preferred fittings.
That was about $30.

Then needed the hose/fitting kit. Can't remember exactly but I think I got AN10 fittings. You only need about 4 fittings, but being a one off install, no idea what types.
The kit cost about $160 ish again off ebay. 5m braided hose plus about 10 AN fittings of various types, which should make sure hoses are routed under and well clear of exhaust/turbo and up to the firewall.

I have to do the exhaust manifold on it soon, which should make the install a lot easier once manifold is off. But even with manifold on, it shouldn't be overly hard anyhow. Only trick will be to be sure the filter blank has to be correctly oriented for the hoses to face backwards(to firewall).

I reckon with the filter at the firewall where some folks add a second battery, filter change should be a few seconds, and with a tub under the filter, once remotely mounted ... zero spillage(always a potential issue where the oil filter on a TD5).

Those links are not recommendations! .. just what I got.
Hose/fitting kit has comes down in price heaps since I got mine too.

From my reading up on stuff, the thread of the TD5 oil filter is 3/4x16. The remote head kit linked too contains all the stuff to fit to the TD5(I think most engines). all adapters(and maybe more) are included.
A side note is that you could easily use a different thread adapter in the remote filter block to use a cheaper/more readily available filter type(eg. Z9 or something).
The remote filter block housings' diameter is pretty much spot on with the diameter of the std TD5 filter.(eg. Ryco Z614 or whatever).
Noting that I haven't fitted it yet, but 'sizing it up' without making the install too complicated, should be mindful that wherever you install it, you need to be able to access the filter easily too .. afterall that's the only reason for the mod.
That is, no point in fitting it(the remote mounted filter block) close to the firewall and you can't easily get the filter on or off .. or if you wanted to use a larger filter type like a Z9 or something.

Today I changed the fuel filter. did the purge thing x3 and long. No issues starting.
Tomorrow the gearbox transfer case and diff oil change. Grease the ball joints as well.

Re the remote filter location, see the pics below of the location that I chose for the filter mount. There’s enough headroom for a Z9 if you want.
