What happened to your Discovery 2 today?

Yes I noted that on the US sourced ones which also indicates that the one you received was different to the one I received.
I have not seen the OE type yet as it is still on order but the photos don't seem to show a cardboard tube. Also the new one that I received did not have a tube but had a caged bearing which I guess does not need a tube.
The caged bearing is a much better idea.
The main message in my post is that it is extremely difficult to use the old bearing even though they do not seem to fail.

Mine is in a panel beater having the LH rear door fixed and repainted after a bloke with a caravan sideswiped the car when it was parked when he was entering the easiest spot in the caravan park. Regards PhilipA

I had a tiny ball bearing bounce around once and it made the piston a bit like that but also left its markings on the head.

No I won't explain how I stupidly got a ball bearing inside the donk. (shame jobs should be buried and forgotten but remember the lesson)

Yeah the head above is the same.

I'd be carefully checking to see what has broken off your turbo as a start, coz it is come in after the air filter, and that's about the only thing with moving metal. (assume EGR setup is gone completely)

And your exhaust side is separate so nothing will go from there over to intake side except back through the exhaust valve but highly unlikely.

What about the glow plugs? still got end on it?

Check intake/exhaust valves in case bit broke off and you not noticed yet.

A good eyeball of everything will help.

In my case I put head back on after removing ball bearing (years and years ago) and it ran fine till it went to the wreckers.

Turbo is good, no idea don't think it was me then haha must of been some one previous, the valves look ok, what ever did it isn't around any more that I can find.

So how did you get a ball bearing in yours ? I need to know now. haha

Clocked up 300,000km on the odometer on the freeway on Friday. Over in SA for the ARC rally. Saurday just as i had finished packing up my stage the drivers window jammed, lucky only open a little bit but a pain in the bum when you need to swipe a card to open boom gates. Then tonight the ABS and TC lights have come on. Just when i thought it was run in, it' starting to run out.

Started replacing the radiator in the D2.
Leaking one came out reasonably easily but slowly.
Went to start the install and found the aluminium replacement had both of the lower outlets open for an EU2 motor and mine is EU3 so only need the fuel cooler outlet.
As it was alloy I was able to get the other one welded closed and pressure tested.
Now waiting for the weather to clear to finish the job in the driveway.
