Silver D2a got his RWC. transferred and driven about for a bit.

Then I got the bad news that my missus reckons my finances don't allow the retention of so many vehicles(3 Discos plus a couple of pugs I upkeep) ...

... something has to go!(and it might not be the cars!)
    Arthur.

All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

When will it end!! Probably never.

"The joys of motoring" as my dad would say.
The three amigos boinged in again. Yes it was the front hub, the one where I changed the ABS cable, hoping that the cable got damaged when the hub came out to replace the diff.
I have to centre the steering wheel, remove the play in the steering box, top up the transfer case. That is for tomorrow, the hub and cam cover gasket, when they arrive.

    I'm hearing you.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

    Steering all good

Today, I centred the steering wheel. It took three tries. Removing the steering wheel does not work. I removed the steering shaft, moved the steering wheel, fitted the shaft, no change!! Removed th shaft again, Got young son to hold the steering wheel still. Joy, still maybe 3 degrees off, well with in the ability of a wheel alignment to fix. Then I tackled the steering box. First try tightened the torx bolt by about 1 turn. Then tightened by about a half turn. It did feel a bit 'notchy' but that quickly went away. Surprisingly the steering wheel is very centred.
It is raining now so the LT230 top up can wait.

EDIT, the steering is a bit too stiff, so I'll loosen it up. Nothing like a success or two to cheer the soul and to stop looking at D4 for sale ads.

Well if push comes to shove...
I may be able to provide marriage counselling. I am an ordained priest and I could re house one of your poor Discos.

    New front hub.

After all the shenanigans on the front, I am getting a low voltage reading from the front LHS ABS sensor. I have bought another hub, that'll go in on the weekend.

What a Christian gesture, but nothing short of the kindness shown amongst the Land Rover community.

Finally got around to replace the bent and then abused back into the roughly correct shape tailpipe section with a decent 2nd one. Not sure if it was a V8/td5 or pre/post facelift difference but most annoyingly the second hand one despite being otherwise identical had the studs on the opposite mating flange.

It came with the muffler too which got repurposed for a series 2 that needed something better

I took my D2 for a run to Samford Valley with the GSD for a walk. Always surprises me how well the d2 handles corners with the Bilstein shocks and Dobinson springs. Very nice. My son with his D2a stripped the drivers door actuator out. Cut it open with an angle grinder. Found that one of the 2 servo motors was sticky. Pulled that apart and cleaned it up. Cleaned the other one while there. Workng again, reinstalled it, TIG welded up the bracket that holds it all together. Back in, working like a charm. He has also recently fixed the plenum chamber, the headlights including new clear coat, rear window regulator, bulbs, fixed cracked dash binnacle and a few other things - coming up nicely. Cheers
