Ive had 2 D2's and a D4 TDV6. The D4 is certainly as nice all rounder.
Anyway, Waxed the old D2 today (well the panels that still have clear and paint)
and ordered new discs so I can get around to full brake overhaul
DBA528S Front discs
DBA093S Rear discs
EBC yellow stuff pads all round
2'' extended braided lines
Should keep me busy over xmas period.

SubscriberAll I can offer in the way of advice is:
If you have to get one, and you are intending to do your own maintenance / repairs, try to look for one that has:
*Been maintained and repaired by a reputable independent.
*2.7 (slightly more reliable than 3.0 especially if 2nd motor is Territory)
* All fluids replaced regularly
Be prepared to spend a lot more on what is considered maintenance items (and would be considered repairs on other vehicles) than on your D2, by that I mean things like.
Wheel bearings, Alternator, A/C compressor control valves, blocked heater matrix, air suspension bushes and components ( valve block O rings EAS compressor desiccant and rebuild / replacement as well as airbag/ shock replacement etc. Lots of the plastic coolant components ( and cam covers in the case of the 3.0 ) along with both timing belts requiring replacement are all considered "maintenance" on top of regular "normal maintenance.
There's a fair bit more but you've probably already researched it, it would be a good idea to add a hoist to the budget and prepare yourself a big swear jar until you accept they aren't as easy to work on as what you are used to.
My intention is not to put you off as they do drive well.
Above is based on the assumption that you are looking for a diesel air suspended model and you will be doing the maintenance / repairs.
Budget $2000-$4000 / year if letting others do it
cheers
I still don’t have my hoist - other pursuits keep eating that budget…
My annual maintenance costs are usually just servicing. 2-3 oil changes a year.
There has been a couple of big “mid life” spends - full suspension replacement and cooling & charging systems.
Other than that it’s all been just the usual consumables like tyres, wiper blades, oils etc.
When well looked after they just do the job without fuss.
Kinda why I mention LR Time. Those two lunatics get dead D4s ( they just bought another one ), rebuild them, and then just maintain. I reckon that they are just kinda highly strung, and need attention more than something like the crude but reliable 7x series trucks ( I use the word 'truck' advisedly ).
I drove D4s when looking at a tourer, prior to buying my OKA. If I had the budget I'd have one in a heartbeat. Make my D2 seem ancient.

Used Raptor 2k aerosol to paint the A and C pillar trim, wheel arch eyebrows, windscreen plenum, door handles, rear bumper trim and the tail light protectors. Looks a lot better than the sun faded graying plastic look.... Raptor should stand up to the UV according to its advertising. The 2k cans aren't cheap but seems to have worked well.

Have done a few things lately;
Bilstein & LRA 50mm lift
Major service
Rebuilt rear diff with Ashcroft ATB - can finally hear myself think (rear diff noise was so bad).
Set of BFG KO3's in 265 x 70 x 16 - they were the first set the dealer had fitted, have done 5,000km - really impressed with them.
New bullbar indicator / parker lights with JW Speaker LED globes - finally got rid of the flashing trailer icon!
Ordered a set of centre console cupholders out of the US
Still to do
Refit transfer case with new bearings & new gasket to fix leaks.
Number of oil leaks to attend to
Fit new Focal speakers to complement Alpine Halo systems
Source new fog lights & upgrade to led
PDR to rear panel below tailight
Window tint
Cheers

Service including diff oils and chasing what I thought was an oil leak… what is wrong with the FPR design?
This one failed in less than thirty thousand …
