Yesterday. I got some fuel. The pump kept clicking off and I got fuel blowback. Never had that before. I'm not sure if that's a function of the bowser or the filler neck on the car. I know modern petrol cars will pressurise the tank as part of the EVAP system, but a 25 yo diesel? Am I worrying about nothing? I guess I'll try a different bowser next time and see.

Hmm yeah so I think it will run a bit cooler without half the simpson desert in the Trans cooler, condenser and intercooler.

I think that the gist is in the bolded part of the description:

The filler tube incorporates a tank vent which allows air and fuel vapour displaced from the tank when filling to vent to
    atmosphere via the filler neck.
A breather spout within the tank controls the tank 'full' height. When fuel covers the spout it prevents fuel vapour and
air from escaping from the tank. This causes the fuel to 'back-up' in the filler tube and shuts off the filler gun. The
position of the spout ensures that when the filler gun shuts off, a vapour space of approximately 10% of the tanks total
capacity remains. The vapour space ensures that the Roll Over Valve (ROV) is always above the fuel level and vapour
can escape and allow the tank to breathe.
The ROV is welded on the top surface of the tank. The ROV is connected by a tube to the filler tube, which in turn is
connected to the atmospheric vent pipe. The ROV allows fuel vapour to pass through it during normal vehicle
operation. In the event of the vehicle being overturned the valve shuts off, sealing the tank and preventing fuel from
spilling from the atmospheric vent pipe.

Mine wasn't even half full. Best I check the breather.

    New radiator is in!

Now the trans cooler is leaking, looks like the barb has split where it is welded to the cooler.

    Fun times.

It happens to me at certain pumps depending on the position i hold the handle in. At certain pumps if i have the nozzle all the way into the filler, itll click instantly, so i just back it out/reposition and its fine

Yeah. It hasn't done it before like this. Fuelled it again yesterday, different bowser, high flow, no issue. I was asking because I was surprised. Had the car 15 years.

I recall when bro had the TD5, he used to have a horror of a time filling up at any bowser. Had to be very gingerly with the fuel pump and 1/4 hold the trigger, or it'd just click off like it was full.

We had to investigate what why, and do some other stuff while there(replace the fuel neck oring, etc.
Took the filler hose off and found the flexi nozzle off a plastic jerry down in there. was wedged in quite hard, and took some force to remove it .. but made sense why you couldn't fill up with any vigour.

Once removed, everything was normal ... high flow pumps were a wonderful thing henceforth

very strange what you find in the weirdest places.

It was a couple of years ago but you have to remove the filler hose to fit it.
Seeing I had a long range tank which made access a PITA, I just made an Oring from silastic. Worked a treat and lasted .
