SubscriberComing home from Ballarat... We were towing the camper in pouring rain and just about to exit the outbound end of the Burnley Tunnel in the right lane and guess what. The thing just stopped. No warning, no faults reported by the Nanocom, no nothing. Just stopped leaving me thinking of the RACV and a flat top. AGAIN. I cranked it and cranked it and it eventually staggered into life and then behaved perfectly for the rest of the trip home to Moe. For the last couple of days it's behaved itself....
It has :-
- New-ish genuine fuel pump - approx 10k km's old.
- new genuine injector loom - about 2k km's old.
- new genuine injector seals and washers about 2k km's ago - I did 'em myself so I know they were done properly.
- new genuine MAF around 2k km's old.
- new genuine MAP/IAT about 2k km's old.
Given the new bits I'm starting to think the issue is electrical rather than fuel related. Maybe something to do with the immobiliser ? I have no solid foundation for thinking that of course.
This latest episode has introduced a degree of disquiet. What will the next "episode" be and when will it happen ?
I'm thinking of naming the D2 "The Citrus Money Pit"
Cheers,
Mark F...

SubscriberTa for that. Sorry I took so long to actually read your post - life gets in the way of cars sometimes specially when it seems to be behaving itself perfectly....
I replaced the FPR and what a production that was, because I had a new one here and in my driving around town it has behaved perfectly since. Of course. I figured the problem had been banished. Wrong !!!
Today with the camper being towed we got about 90km from home and power was lost. Full throttle saw it able to maintain slight headway. As soon as I lifted my foot it stalled. After about 20 seconds of cranking it stuttered into life and we made progress for a few hundred metres and repeated the no power, stall sequence. At this point I gave up and called the RACV to flat top us home. Again.
The only reason I didn't change the air bleed valve when I did the FPR is that I didn't have one. Stupid I know - should've got one and fitted it... At least I know what I'm doing tomorrow.
The "Citrus Money Pit" strikes again...
Cheers,
Mark F...

Well, investigating the leak from the ACE actuator and it turns out the new pipes made by Pirtek (not their fault by the way) are the culprit. Gave it a good clean down and had thought it was the banjo leaking but no.
They have rubbed on the inner guard and one has been rubbing flat, down to the metal and the second one across the pipe and a micro leak has developed.

Also found the front bush has gone as well, knowing that the gaiter has to be replaced as well. Looked up the special tool required in the workshop manual, mmmmm LRT-60-009 ACE special tool

So have to make a bracket to hold the pipes away from the guard and hopefully only need to get the single pipe, not both.
So, ACE and the airbox / snorkel, should be a fun couple of weeks

I drove on Deep Creek No 1 Track and then up Fulton's Creek Track with the Land Rover Club on Saturday. I do nt get to the top unaided, along with a D4 and s County. The track was just to muddy and slippy.

I got to about halfway between the people and the top.

This is the vehicle that winched me up. Note rear winch, attached to a tree. The car is a Nissan Patrol with a Duramax V8 big tyres and lift. Fully engineered. It is a beast. The other cars that got up had twin lockers.

A new awning, Kings.
They pack the fitting parts and instructions in the awning, I found it when I installed it and opened it up for the first time.

We have had the genuine Foxwing for around 14 yrs.Had it on the D2,D4,and now the LC.It has been fantastic, but be very carefull in the wind,no matter the brand.
It doesn't take much to damage it,even if it is tied down well, they like to work loose.
Have had to rebuild ours once, all the parts were available off the shelf which was good.
Thanks! I've never had an awning and they look really good. I wasn't sure if fowings get used less due to setup time compared to the simple side awnings (eg lunch stops) or if they were better due to increased coverage when camping. 14 years makes me think you prefer that setup. Thanks.

SupporterWhat did i do? I enjoyed driving my Discovery! Still love my "Leaky" spent another long few days working on the Rally of the Heartland at Burra. Ran a stage near Worlds End then another 80Km one at Mt Dare out to Collinsville Station and back via Mallet. Didn't miss a beat. Got 10L/100K's on the highway getting there and back., but a bit more on the tracks. It's day was up earlier and off to the location, sit still and provide shelter and charging for radio's and tablets (solar and 80aH Lithium). when all the cars had had there fun it is pack up time, 4Hrs to do 80Km from idling while clearing gate tags and signs to setting a respectable pace between points. Might need some new bump stops thou. Managed to fit the everything in, lucky i'm good at Tetris, shorter star pickets fit between the doors on the floor, the longer ones behind the back seat between the windows. Amazing how much space there is. Then travel back home at night avoiding the roo's for 3 1/2 hours. Only issue i have is the bulldust collects on the back door and sits there. Anyone tried deflectors or something?
