BMW commits suicide against my D2

one of those days unfortunately; was driving home from work, along the on ramp to the freeway. 2 lanes, some traffic, but reasonable spacing as the dividing line disappears near the end as the 2 lanes merge before the freeway. No right of way, sign says form one line, rules are to do one by one (give-way to who ever is in front)
The traffic was slowing from 70 to 60 as the merging began, still plenty of space around, I was in the left lane, but I could see a BMW some distance back in the right lane.

Coming up to the merge, another mirror check and the BMW had gained on me, but still several car lengths back.

Cars in front of me, cars behind as I start to merge....WTH, bloody BMW is suddenly trying to squeeze past as the lanes merge, speeding into the slowing traffic. No attempt to slow down or merge one by one, slams into my rear right wheel and it's excessive speed carries it scraping down the side of my car until we both stop.

No-one else stops, but we both manage to pull over to the emergency lane. We get out and she starts screaming why did I hit her. What am I suppose to do, disappear?

Anyway, there was no way to argue with her, so we exchanged details and took photos. But bloody hell, her new looking BMW 5 series was wrecked front to back where my rear tyre and wheel arch guards had scraped as she slid past. Fortunately the disco fared much better, only a crack in the rear wheel arch guard from the initial impact and a couple of paint rubs and scrapes down the side which will polish out easily.

But, here's the weird stuff - I have 3 crash cams on the car, yes 3. 2 front and 1 back. All 3 are different to have the least likelihood of all 3 failing....now you know what's coming....

front #1 records to the head unit and stopped recording 10 seconds before the impact.
front #2 is a dash cam and records to SD card continually, even with engine off. It seems to have stopped recording last Tuesday and recorded nothing until 5 minutes after the crash and suddenly started recording.
Rear #1 is a different kind of dash cam and records to SD card continually, even with engine off. It too recorded nothing until 5 minutes after the crash and suddenly started recording.
Here's the kicker, 2 weeks ago, I ordered a front and rear pumper cam, which would record continuously to a HDD CCTV DVR under the seat. For some reason, the seller didn't send them until today! This would have captured everything reliably.
AND......I did splash out a bit more money on one of those 0805 dash cams a month ago, with built in GPS logging, it over heated and fried my SD card overnight (when it was cool) after just 2 days!!

It seems something out there want to make this difficult for me

So, with all these "coincidental" technical issues resulting in no evidence, it's my word against hers.

It's clear (to me from the photos) the damage on here car starts at the front left corner of her bumper and the initial impact on my disco starts at the rear tyre and wheel arch trim. I also have the last recorded image 10 seconds before the impact showing she is not in front of me at least. I just hope I can make the insurance understand what happened.

I believe that Murphy made a comment that seems to have described what happened to your dash cams.

That BMW driver must have taken driving lessons from a van driver I encountered in Sydney a few weeks ago.

I needed to move into the right lane to prepare for a right turn a few hundred metres ahead. The traffic was fairly light (for Sydney) and there was a gap beside me big enough for about there vehicles.

Since I am not a regular Sydney driver, instead of immediately moving into the gap, I thought it best to check that the van driver in the right lane and about three car lengths back was maintaining speed and wasn't about to close the gap.

Two or three glances in the mirror over several seconds confirmed that his speed was constant and the same as my speed, so the gap was remaining the same. So I put on my right blinker to indicate my intention to move into the right lane.

What I didn't know was that for some city drivers, that is interpreted as a signal that they should immediately do their best to close the gap. While he eventually backed off, given the speed, times and distances involved, his actions could only be interpreted as a deliberate attempt to inconvenience me.

Your BMW driver was apparently more determined than my van driver.

When u put ur indicator on to change lanes in Adelaide it means ur intending to steal road from the bloke in that lane so they speed up to stop you flogging their piece of road. So to get around that happening it seems Adelaideians just dont bother indicating at all. I often wonder if indicators are an optional extra in cars over here

This happened to me in Newport, heading north, just after the bridge, some retard in a small white car accelerated to get past. The horn is nice and loud in the Disco!!.

    Cheers

I think all these idiots started their driving careers in Geelong.
