The spring is quite hard don't be surprised, the rod is pushed forward by the diaphragm on boost pressure coming from the intercooler through the modulator which bypasses the pressure at low revs and opens as the boost increases managed by the ECM, when the turbo is in action the boost is helping too to open the waste gate so the spring is exposed to double action, direct boost against the waste gate port within the turbo and the pressure coming from intercooler through the actuator valve.... too light spring would let boost leak through the wastegate...the description in RAVE is wrong in this particular area(too)
