Also forgot to mention, now when turned off all the dash warning lights flash and temp and fuel needles move up and down.
These dont go out until the battery is disconnected.
Also the the SRS warning light decided to come for one of the days...
I have a 2000 D2 Td5
Before leaving for darwin from melbourne the rotors were changed and immediately after the 3 amigos came on. The mechanic plugged in the computer and found shuttle valve errors.
We were due to leave the next day and he said it would not effect the operation of the standard brake system.
So we took the car and began the journey...
Somewhere around broken hill the speedo dropped to 0 and cruise stopped working, using the GPS for speedo we continued as we were miles from anything.
Pulled up that night and found the car made a steady beeping and flashing red light on dash all night even when locked up.
Continued to dawin...
Now the transmission seems to be stuck in first despite putting it in first and the sports light stays on the dash
On top of this it seems the alternator has also gone as the battery light is on and battery drains in a 20 minute drive and needs to be jump started.
The speedo came back on for 100kms then quit again, I did notice also that no kms have been logged on the trip meter the whole way, including the 100ks it came back on.
Are any of these things linked?
Could the loss of speedo be messing with the transmission?
Seems to me like the car is falling apart from the inside out despite looking like a well looked after clean car.
If anyone has any ideas they would be much appreciated as we are very much stuck up here now.
Or know of a competent rover mechanic in darwin? we are staying with a friend about 20 mins south of Darwin city.

The battery being down on voltage may be the cause of the gearbox faults.

Welcome to AULRO, you have found one of the most helpful Land Rover forums around.
The speedo( and cruise) picks up signals from all 4 wheel(abs) sensors and then averages the signal.
With no input the transmission ECU will not be getting a speed input so may go to a default.
The main concern is the battery not holding charge, this can effect all the electrical systems.
Check for brake lights, this fuse also feeds the alternator charge circuit so it may just be blown fuse.
Get the battery/ charge issue sorted first then road test it to see if the other faults reset with a good voltage supply.
The shuttle valve could be any thing from a loose earth wire behind the LH headlamp to bad switches or faulty circuit board(option b fix).
At a quick guess, you have a faulty alternator, with all other problems flowing from this (Possibly intermittent). So yes, first thing to do is to get the alternator confirmed as working normally.

I have sent you a message with my number. I am in Darwin
It may be bigger issues than low battery/alternator. It may have several issues.
Hopefully its just the alternator
Did you do a VIN check on the vehicle before purchasing it?? Maybe its a repairable write off thats been in the drink? Highly unlikely, but you never know.
If its flashing lights etc when its turned of, this could be the ECU perhaps?? Maybe its soaked in Oil and causing these faults??
earthing issue
dying alternator (more specifically a blown diode or 2 in the rectifier pack)
BCU harness failure/damage

Is the tachometer working? It gets its signal from the AC side of the alternator.
