    Now the fun starts.

Picked up my 2001 TD5 on Thursday. So far: clear coat on roof starting to peel (it's a white one luckily), air cleaner element clogged!!, roof lining starting to sag, remote key broken, new battery, belt tensioner bearing, fan shaft bearing, crank pulley and seal, camshaft seals, fuel pressure regulator leaking, oil leaking behind turbo somewhere, wrong coolant, front disc's rotors, pads, hand brake. All filters and fluids, new tyres, seat cushion mounting clips. Just had a new fuel pump, that's about the only thing i won't have to fix or replace! Some people just should own cars. Body's straight and looks good and is basically unmolested, has 195,000Km's so bit of life left yet. Started pulling it to bits today and making up the list of parts i need. This forum has been a great help, just about everything listed that fails is on the list!
Where is technology up to with Nanocom type devices now, what is available?

    Hi Peter,
Well you certainly have a list to be working on, did you knowingly walk into this little lot and adjust the purchase price accordingly, or has all this "stuff appeared since Thursday? "
If your funds can stretch far enough might be worth checking out "BlackBox solutions" in Cyprus. An English company moved over there when they had hassles in the UK. Personally found the system and the support to be great, good for getting right into the system. There are lots of other products that work, Hawkeye being another one, Blackbox is something I have personal experience with.

TRS in Adelaide can help you out with spares at a reasonable cost and delivery.

    Cheers Marty

So far, front disc's and pads replaced. Brake fluid flushed. Front and back diff oil replaced. Fuel filter and water sensor replaced. Crank pulley replaced (bit hard to work now, missing an arm and leg after buying the pulley). Tomorrow, fuel regulator kit to put in, transfer case oil to change. Refit fan and aux belt, change engine oil and filters. 4 more wheel nuts will be here on the weekend to get rid of the lock nuts. All going well rego next week. Fingers crossed.

    Fuel Pressure Regulator

After losing an afternoon with the centrifuge bolt, i did the fuel pressure regulator, put the new kit in, used the new gasket bolted it up and .... leaked everywhere. Pulled it off and refitted being extra extra carefull, still leaked. Remembered noticing the sealing ridges in the gasket where different, quick phone call to the supplier, seems like my 12/2000 has an early model regulator which has a different gasket. if you change the whole assembly you don't get this problem... but it's an extra $300. Put the old gasket back on for now and it looks good no leaks. Just need to fill with engine oil, transfer case oil and coolant and it will be ready for a test drive to see if i have any other leaks or problems.
My original $1000 budget for parts has blown out to $2000 so far. and still going.
