    Air box duck bill replacement

Has anyone found a suitable replacement for the air box duck bill?

It is only available from LR if you buy the complete air box

Mine doesn't self seal anymore. I did seal it with silicone, but when driving in heavy rain the air box was no longer able to drain and my air filter was getting chocked with water.

My current solution is to put a bulldog type clip on it when crossing water.

I cut the thumb off a pair of heavy duty rubber gloves. Its relatively easy to "feel" if its full of water or dust, and easy to slip off and replace.

How do you secure it in place?

    Hi Dinosaur,
    I like that idea!

It sounds as if maybe you used it to replace the standard duckbill dump-valve - is that right?
Or did you place it over that valve, on the outside?
And: do you secure it in place with a small cable tie, bulldog clip, or what?

    Cheers, Andrew Milne

I am led to believe that these little dust "dump valves" are a donaldson invention, perhaps Donaldson themselves can supply something? We use a similar looking things on the trucks at work, but they have about a 3" inlet on them.

Donaldson make replacement valves in numerous different sizes
On my old tdi defender I had to make an aluminium sleeve to expand the sealing surface to take a new donaldson valve but it worked well.

they are pretty cheap from a truck filter/ fuel injector place

    Yep, replaced the duckbill.
Just cut thumb off, and stretched it over the bottom. Its a tight fit but it stays. For the price of a rubber glove, I replace it about 3 times a year. Have had no dramas so far.
