I was always under the impression it was from the alternator, but not 100% on that.
One the V8 110 I had it was the prop shaft.

I posted this in the LPG section, but putting out here as I might get a response.
I need to pick up the RPM signal to connect the rpm wire for a PRINS sequential LPG system.
I took a system of a donor D2 and it got it's signal from the coil pack, but the instructions from the manufacturer states not to use the coil pack.
With the signal receiving wire connected to the coil pack it does not display a steady RPM, it fluctuates up and done from 600 - 3900 rpms. this will not allow the LPG ECU to calibrate correctly and causes an error.
Googling has not been any help.
So what wire can I tap into to get the correct signal for RPM
I have used the coil pack wire another LPG sequential system and it worked, but not with this prins system.

According to the wiring diagram in RAVE the Tachometer gets its signal from the ECU. However I think there is an output on the alternator, is it 'w'? Not 100% sure but that may be a good place to start.

The PWM signal for tachometer is on ECU's connctor C0637 pin 17 (white/grey wire) if that's what you need.(see RAVE-Electrical library-Connector views)

After doing some more investigation I believe that the problem with the signal from coil is that I need to install a separate RPM module.
Prins make a module which gets it's signal via a wire a coil into the RPM module and then exits the module and goes to the GAS ECU.

That's sierrafery, I soldered a wire to it this arvo.
Then I managed to get RPM signal .
Next problem was the LPG diagnostic software would not read the RPM correctly.
The Clog Wogs, don't have any help files on their software, but I emailed them in the Netherlands and they said
"This is not a bug. Please correct RPM_fac settings.
This is parameter to calculate factor of multiplication the signal imput. You can easily check everything between 1-20 to adjust correct RPM "
Yeah ok thanks for the gobbly gook, I didn't have a clue where to do that as there is no help files to tell you where stuff is. Clicking around sections ,flying on a wing and a prayer , I found a section called "sensors" in which I found RPM-FAC. I changed a value to 16 and it gave me an RPM that was close to my nanocoms RPM reading.
So hopefully tomorrow I can try the auto Calibration of the LPG ECU to the Petrol ECU with a bit more success now that the RPM signal is correct
