    Rattling noise 2500RPM Disco2

I have a distinct rattling noise in my 2000 D2 td5 that occurs at 2500RPM only in around 2nd or 3rd gear. I tried to record the noise to put onto youtube and link here whilst in the driveway today but discovered it doesn't occur in neutral or park at 2500RPM, only whilst driving.

It sounds like its something just rattling around on the engine but now i know it doesnt occur while stationary it makes me think its something gear related.

Is this a common thing for a 2.5 diesel 5cycl turbo? Ill try record it tomorrow while driving quickly as it happens consistently at that RPM. i either cruze lower RPM or go above it just to stop it, pretty irritating

    Cheers,
    Nathan

As you drive and when you hear it , ease the handbrake on lightly and see if it goes away. The shoes can rattle.

Ok so i tried it gently on the way to work this morning and turns out my handbrake doesnt really engage so that cluld be the source of the issue. When i engaged whatever i could of the handbrake it did dampen the sound but not entirely remove it

Is there a lot involved to re tighted then handbrake? I may have to give the mechanic another visit

There is adjustment on both the drum and in the cable, i think this came up recently so do a forum search.
The other cause of a rattle in a TD5 is the harmonic balancer.
