Hi Chilla,
Personally I would get to know it a bit first as you don't know whether there may be some surprises left by the previous owner. However if you are comfortable with the risk have a good time and you have brought a great 4X4.
Cheers

Only bought my 03 208k km td5 yesterday, but the boys have planned a trip to double island point this weekend. I wouldn't mind taking the opportunity to join in as the fam is in nz atm and it would be a good learning curve. May be considered a bit foolish as I've only just got the car, but screw it, seems like the stars have aligned so I'm going for it.
My mates have been a few times, but myself none. So just wondering if there are any tips, apart from psi down to about 20psi. Eg, spares to take, things to keep an eye on etc.
Also I'm hoping to have a surging at full throttle problem sorted by then, but if not, would it be advised to give it a miss this time?

I'm actually pretty confident in the car. Full land rover Specialist service history, with the likes of M R automotive etc. It's always a risk, but a punt I'm fairly comfortable with. The only thing worrying me is the surge problem at full throttle. But it drives sweet as long as I don't put the pedal to the metal, so maybe it won't be too much of an issue.
Surging might be a pain in soft sand , try doing as previously mentioned in the other thread , if sand is soft I'd go lower with pressures, don't forget diff lock to be kind to the spider gears in the transfer case and have a ball
Center Diff Lock absolutely. Kinder and better.
Cheers
CDL as soon as you hit the beach......
Start with 20psi, don't be tempted to run full pressure, you will see a lot just drive straight into the beach.
I assume you will be hitting the beach Friday Arvo or Saturday morning? To maximize the weekend......tides not ideal therefore you might spend a bit of time in the soft stuff.....if this is the case than watch the temp gauge as you don't know it history.
It's gonna be busy up there.....
Everybody bashes on about the 2hr either side of high.......all good and well but if I was heading up this weekend to max. my time on the beach I would be happy to plough through softer sand to get up there Friday Arvo or Sat morning.....the tides are perfect for the run home on Monday.......expect the line up at the ferry to be very long
Other than that have a good weekend.

And put it in Sport mode for the auto.
Thanks to everyone for the tips. Seems like we have a pretty tight community, with a lot of people willing to help.
Feels good to be a D2 owner! Have a good weekend fellas.
