Thread: Thank you engine saver alarm...

This beauty saved the day! Driving toward the city and alarm went off.


I popped the bonnet open and yep, coolant reservoir empty and OAT sprayed within the engine bay. I topped it up with water and limped home.


Very thankful that I got out of it for $120 including parts and labour.


Cause. The coolant hose that runs across of the head rubbed itself to death. The fuel cooler was recently overhauled by a well know LR indi near me and therefore disturbed the hoses in that area. I also had the same workshop replace the top radiator hose which was weeping on the ends. The new hose must have been installed by a mechanic wearing two eye patches as it rubbed itself to death on the AC compressor approximately not long after.


I fitted a new genuine hose and it's not even close to the compressor once it's fitted. I was assured the workshop used genuine parts ??


I normally do my own work but every now again I get short on time and as it is the wife's daily I drop it off to a mechanic. Needless to say I have since found a new mechanic who I'm happy with and is a fair bit cheaper.


I didn't think my post was going to go this way, supposed to be a plug for the engine saver instead of a rant but these sort of things get me going and is why I have trust issues when leaving my cars with anyone.

yep those alarms are handy, will fit one to next new car I get (in a few years)
