Remove the headliner to get access to the bolts.
Is the water coming from the rail bolts or from the windscreen seal?
Anyone know an easy way to get to the roof rail bolts ,
Jumped in and there is water running down the pillar i have lowered the lining a touch and put a bore scope in ,, there is a trickle Would like to remove as they are just for show in my opinion ,,(and they look crap )
or do i have to remove the wheels engine gearbox chassis rails drivers side grease nipples then get a plasma cutter to remove the roof then re weld it all together,,,,,,
or can i just remove the roof console and the handles , and lower the lining down ?
cheers all![]()

Rail bolt ..
I know you need to drop the headlining ,,but heard horror stories
I want to remove the rails so i can drop a full length roof rack down the extra 30mm so looks like a pain job ,,,,
You could take off the radiator cap and drive another car under it😆😆😆😆😆

was thinking that but then thought the "O" ring on the cap would need replacing !
:-}
While you are in the area, have a look at the outside of the roof to a pillar junction and have a look for any cracks in the sealant to the drip rail.
We found on our car that at any speed >45 kph water would be forced through this cracking in the sealant into all sorts of places.
Sounds like not your issue, but worth a look while the lining is down. Keep this up and you'll have a D2 you cannot whinge about!!

REVENGE <<
and no i would never sell the discovery ,,, i don't hate anyone that bad <<<<<
I took my rails off. With out dropping the complete roof lining. Most, but not all. It's fiddly, but can be done. If your roof lining is sagging then it's the best time to do it. Two birds etc etc...
I plugged the holes with the blank plugs on the wiper scuttle.
Slight trim and some silicone, bingo.
