    Question Cooling system overhaul

    2000 D2 TDI

After overhauling my intake last week, I noticed a small crack in the side tank of my radiator (base of the barb for the expansion tank line). I intend to replace the radiator and probably the hoses (still factory). A couple of questions?

Stick with OEM radiators? Or are there better quality options?
Is there anything else I should be looking at while I have the radiators and coolant hoses off?

Work recently completed: new silicone turbo hoses, intercooler clean, egr blank and provent install.

    Cheers in advance.

    Hi There,
Personally if I had the choice I would go for an all ally radiator, welded headers. They are pretty a much of a muchness when it comes to price not a lot of difference. My opinion. You can find quite a large selection on Fleabay. Might want to look at the water pump, how long has that been there, and check the serpy belt. Check the tensioner isn't seized. Check the rollers for looseness.
    Cheers Marty.

    Thanks Marty.

I was looking at this alloy radiator. Hard to tell if it meets minimum spec though: 3 ROW Upgrade Race Radiator FOR Land Rover Discovery 2 5 TD5 Diesel 1999 2004 | eBay

I'll look into the water pump. I change the serp belt a few months ago when I did the fan bearing.

The TD5 radiator changed in 2002
Do the China made aluminum radiators reflect this?

I think I'm going to stick to OEM. I live in the same location as RoverParts, so I save on postage anyway. Very handy.
