Thread: Fitting an Ashcroft ATB LSD to a D2

Definitely do it, great piece of kit. I have 3 of them on my wish list

It's the same as any diff. You need to swap over the crownwheel to the new diff, and have the pinion and crownwheel mesh set up again, I'd probably get a pro to do this.
If you're feeling like spending some cash then by all means go for the HD axles and CVs but I wouldn't call them necessary, the atb is much kinder to the driveline than a full locker, I've only heard of one person exploding a cv with an ATB and that was standing on the brakes at full noise and then pulling off to try and pop out of a snow drift while half on a bitumen road.

I stuffed my CVs when I fitted a true trac to the front fitted the stronger Ashcroft CVs years ago been fine ever since.


have a Detriot locker in the rear broke a rear axle 2 years ago, fitted stronger maxi axles, and have a LSD in the transfer case now to need to find some good places to try down in Sydney soon.

I have the Ashcroft ATB, Ashcroft HD axels and CV's in my D2a. I removed the diff's and took them to JC to swap over the centres, then refitted it all myself. I fitted in both axles front and rear, the steering is a bit heavier but as for off road performance the traction control comes on very raely in the sand where as before it was on constantly. Also I fitted the GBR 3.9 crown and pinions so goes better with the 32 inch tires. Had a extra shim kit from ashcrofts and did it all myself, just measuring and following what the presets are. It does take a few goes at getting the tooth pattern right. Well worth the effort. Put it all together then towed my boat 1.5 tons, up the Port Hedland the next week no troubles.
