AT RESTLat week I had a customer with a problem on his D2 TD5, he rang me to say it was running bad once you put load on it at around 3000RPM.
He told me he cleaned his Maf with Maf Cleaner thinking it was his Maf causing the problem.
I made a house call to assist him, and we found his inter-cooler hoses were very soft so we replaced as a precaution any way.
We tried another Maf and the problem was still there.
I did put the Hawkeye on it and it showed stuck open EGR,
In the end we replaced the waste gate boost Valve and it all returned to normal and was running great once more.
We also gave the MAP sensor a clean whilst we were at it, it wasn't too bad,
Today he rang me from Warrnambool and says he has his camper trailer on and is returning from a short holiday and when he applies power and it gets to 3000rpm it again is starting to bunny hop (surging).
It drives ok as long as he doesn't plant the put a bit harder.
He doesn't have any diagnostics.
We need some help on this one, could it be a sticking waste gate?
Or maybe a Stuck open EGR valve?

Overboost.
Check for torn/separated vac lines from the modulator.
Alternatively bypass the modulator by going straight from the hard metal intake pipe to the wastegate itself.
If you suspect a sticking wastegate, grip the rod with a pair of pliers or vice grips and lube it up while working the rod back and forth.
I had the same thing coming out of Wilcania on the way to melrose, hose had torn at the barb.

Definitely sounds like overboost fuel cut so he can either manually check that the wastegate moves, and if his vehicle is chipped then to check the actual boost pressure. Also recheck all the pipes from the intercooler pipe to the boost modulator and to the wastegate.

AT RESTThanks Justin, I also thought it must be something on those lines. He just got home and rang me, and guess what, one of the modulator hoses was hanging off it perished and split , so probably explains why the new modulator he fitted last week fixed the problem and then the prob reoccurred.
