Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean. I didn't know there was a flap under the dash.
Hi
As the heading states I've somehow lost/broken the metal tab that the locking screw fixes the plastic flap onto. Is there an way way to fix this problem? Thought about getting one from a wrecker and Tig weld it back on so it holds the flap properly.
Cheers
Luke

It's basically the plastic flap that is on the right hand side of the steering column, there is usually a metal tab that the flap fixes onto which has disappeared on my car.....hope this helps😜

I had the same thing happen to the D1. It's a pig to fix neatly in place, it's effectively glued/smooshed into the dash material IIRC, so once broken off it's difficult to reattach.
I also remember that gluing to the dash material is unlikely to work too well.
I think I managed to make a small metal tab up that I fixed to the inside that replaced it, but I can't recall how I fixed it to the main dash. I suspect I drilled and put a bolt through.
If you want a neat job I think you'll need to remove the dash to gain access to the back, then you may be able to weld something on (though how the front will look after the heat... ) or use a short self tapper or two to attach a tab.
That's a lot of work...
The other option is to change the panel that opens so the tab is on that and rotates and locks against the dash. In fact I reckon that is the way I'd go, it's only 4 bolts to remove the panel then it's a bit of fab work to make a simple mechanism.
edit: Kind of like this, but obviously without the big handle on the front, it's the rear mechanism I'm talking about latch

LH side one on mine is gone too, I was thinking of creating another and fibre glassing it into place. If the entire panel comes off easily as suggested it would make it easier, you could ensure perfect alignment by closing the latch to get it right.

So
After a closer inspection....as stated by others there's actually a plastic tab that is normally under the dash which the tongue normally latches to. Looks like I might have to try source another one and reattach it somehow
Cheers
