Is Allisport intercooler better than EU3 Auto

I have done a lot of research on what to do to increase power of my 2002 EU3 TD5 auto.
Allisport say that their intercooler is far superior to the stock one but all this seems to refer to the manual.

Has anyone seen anything referring specifically to the improvement of the Allisport auto intercooler over the EU3 auto intercooler?

Their site says its far better than the poorly designed LR intercooler but doesn't seem to differentiate between EU2 and EU3 which is much larger.

Second question , does anyone know of a local manufacturer who could fabricate an efficient intercooler at a reasonable price that could copy the EU3 dimensions and fittings.

From my experience with fabricators, you will be much better off getting an off the shelf item. PWR might be interested in doing it if they don't already have an off the shelf offering. They make quality products, but I would be surprised if you can't find an equivalent UK sourced one for cheaper.

I use the Sereck Motorsports intercooler < High Performance Cooling by Serck Motorsport > on my D2a TD5. i bought it through TD5 Alive/Alive Tuning or BAS or some other big name UK Land Rover mob, but when it arrived it was clearly not actually made by them but rather by Sereck (has there label on it). It's a perfect fit and is much bigger than the D2a intercooler (which is already bigger than a D2 intercooler). I would recommend it, especially at the current exchange rates.

Did you fit a de-CAT downpipe? this might give you noticeable improvement, also i felt a real betterment in the throttle response by changing the wastegate actuator with the forge version: Adjustable Actuator for Defender or Discovery TD5

I have removed the EGR and upped the boost to 19lb . Also dewebbed and ceramic coated manifold with Mercedes studs and the turbo blanket.

I have a decat pipe which I plan to fit this weekend, with a Flowmaster lightly baffled muffler to follow.

I have to replace the oil drain from the turbo as the aircon pipe looks to have worn through it, although it is hard to see whether the leak is from where the hose was rubbing or the flexible hose being stretched when I replaced the manifold.
Anyway, to get to the drain I need to drop the pipe anyway so I will combine it in one job.

Thanks for the feedback. Realistically I will not have much money for an intercooler unless I win some money in Lotto but you never know someone may have an inexpensive idea.

I have seen my Allisport auto intercooler compared to both EU2 and EU3 standard intercoolers. I've also seen the manual spec intercooler from Allisport.
The manual one is huge. The auto one is still bloody big compared to stock.
Plus. They're awesome and shiny I like mine, however the map I'm running is fairly potent so I considered it a necessary precaution for EGTs.
Also, if you're not running a remap, I wouldn't bother with the intercooler. You're not going to get much benefit on its own.

I did a ruff measure and calculated that the auto Allisport IC had a core about 30% larger than the core on a factory EU3 (D2a) IC.

Unless you reposition the gearbox cooler you have to use the auto version even if you have an Aus spec manual box.

I know of at least two on here who have done that, auto and manual, and run the manual cooler.
Mr LR for the manual and Joel0407 for the auto.

I have the standard LR auto trans radiator (4 years old), Alisport intercooler, relocated, uprated trans cooler, and still the bluddy thing runs hot towing the 3.5T brick on a warm day or over 80 kmph. NO, THE VAN IS NOT FOR SALE - SWAMBO picked it, and it does have certain creature comforts.
Still saving for a PWR 4 core alum radiator or similar 'cos I don't know what else to do.

I am interested in a better intercooler even without a remap as all that I have read says that cooler in cooler out, and I don't need a warped manifold.
I tow a 1000Kg camper and really want to be able to hold speed up hills.

As an aside , during my first outing with the EGR delete and upped boost, I saw about 700C going up the Hawkesbury hill northbound on the M1 when I was baulked and tried to regain speed in third at about 3500RPM. The boost also dropped off to about 14Lbs. Once back in top and locked the EGR fell to a more manageable 550.
I will see if the decat changes things but I really don't want no net gain after the changes I have made.
I also now lust after a VNT but that is far in the future if ever.

I have a remap available but I have been unwilling at this stage to fit it due to the risk of bricking my ECU, given the cost of a NNN ECU second hand

Philip, I'm no expert, but I understand the chances of bricking a programmable ECU to be quite small, especially with using a Nanocom?
If yours is ex Jose/TD5Inside, you know of course his after sales service is second to none.
I have from him a very mild (about stage 1) remap set up for towing/economy (pre enforced engine replacement and fitting oversize tyres, so must get back to him one of these years). Very happy and feel entirely confident.
    Cheers
