I can remove the ignition lock, so the steering will work, and remove the ignition switch from the other end so I can start and drive the car. Not a good look.
What are the options for the long term?
1 Remove the wafers and steering lock. Yes Pedro, I can start the car with a screw driver, but you can't get in or get past the immobiliser with out the key.
2 Get the ignition barrel repaired with new wafers, but how long will that last.
3 Buy a second hand one from ebay, but how long will that last? And then swap the electronics to the new keys.
4 Buy a new one from Land Rover. Hmm just checking. No pigs flying so that option is out
5 Buy a disco 1 STC1435 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ignition-...oAAOSw44BYCa46 This looking good.

SupporterTake the barrel to a locksmith and get him to clean it out. Wouldnt have thought that would cost much.

SubscriberRebuild the original barrel I had mine done about 4 years ago and haven't had a problem since although the lock smith said don't hang to much weight of the barrel .

I went for the d1 barrel plugs straight in just have to have 2 keys one for the new barrel and the old one for the electronics

Any way I think it is a decent D2a, remember the 'a'
It just needs a bit of (continuous) TLC.

AT RESTYep it's a sickness this Land Rover thing. When I purchased my first one, the dealership told me, most people that buy a Land Rover will buy another one in the future. On my Third, so is is a sickness, but there doesn't seem to be a cure. Unfortunately you can't claim them as a dependent on taxation like your kids.Isn't that a Land Rover thing?

I'm hoping to delete the ignition barrel and have a switch instead.
This should work if passive immobilisation is disabled, correct?
