I would suspect blown globe.
hi all. I recently noticed my right indicator blinks much faster than normal, compared to the left. What is the likely cause? Would bulb replacement fix the problem?
Cheers

I would suspect blown globe.
Sometimes people wrongly fit a 5W indicator globe instead of the correct 21W type and the bulb failure detector circuit then causes the fast flash.
When was the last time you topped up your blinker fluid?
2000 D2 TD5: Tunit Chipped, EGR Delete, 2" lift, 265s, TJM bullbar, full length roof rack
Electronic flasher units (usually the square plastic ones) have had this function since around 1978, it's a legal requirement. It's also why you see the odd vehicle with replacement LED indicators going gangbusters, because they don't load the flasher unit correctly. LED compatible flashers or load resistors are used in these cases to correct the flash rate. You can even refit the electronic flasher units to early model vehicles, my P76 collection all got one each way back when. You just removed the 2 pin smoke filled device and plugged in the electronic unit after adding an earth wire to the existing 3 pin socket.![]()
Ah, but in a D2 there is no flasher unit.
The indicators are run by the BCU.
There must be some detection mechanism in it.
