I keep a 5/8" 6 point impact type deep socket for all my RV8 head loosening and tightening. 12 point sockets won't do the job reliably.

OK so other head didn't have studs but stretch bolts. So with studs is it easy enough to place the head on the studs despite the firewall and the 2 outlet pipe stubs from the heater matrix? The studs and dowels should locate the gasket nicely. Cheers
Never. The holes in the head don't have enough clearance to do that. The dowels in the block should be entirely adequate to hold the head gasket while you place the head into position. Once it's there, hand tighten a couple of the long studs to stop the head sliding off the dowels.Quote:
