I think you could also "muddy the waters" a bit as the D2 TD5 did not get a catalyst until EU3.
I think if you argued an up to 2002 did not have a cat, nobody would know enough to argue.
As an aside the development team considered the EU3 didn't need a catalyst to meet the EU3 regs but fitted one on the safe side to account for"outliers".

EU3 was not required in OZ until 2006? , but legally to the letter it is an offence to remove pollution equipment.
The authorities would have to arrest about 80% of the deisel population if they followed laws to the letter.

They only check what's on the inspection list.

I had one inspection done where the guy who signed the pink slip was different to the bloke who inspected it. The report had all sorts of things on it like oversized tyres and other mods etc and the guy signing off on the pink slip ignored it all and signed off. I dont seem to attract any attention by the police with it and whenever I have been stopped by the police they have never asked to see the engineering report. Actually nobody has ever asked to see the engineering report which always has to be with the car.

So if they are turning blind eyes so to speak then it's just a money making scam to have a pit check every 12 months.

I don't think they're turning a blind eye, the inspection just doesn't seem to require or facilitate that type of thing.

The inspection is a safety inspection eg rust, seat belts, horn, tyres, brakes, wipers, lights, oil leaks, suspension operation etc.

As Slunnie said the nsw pink slip is a Safety inspection. They are only looking at the things that concern the safety of the vehicle. Unless they are particularly anal most places will be happy with most mods.

Im sorry but when has pollution equipment not been part of safety .
I know what we are talking about is not going to kill us immediately But if we listen to our pollies and the bleeding hearts out there it is very serious .
So really your NSW Pink Slip is flawed as in safety check

If we're going to bush lawyer it, then we shouldn't stop just there.

True it is a safety item in that regard rangieman. Also the workshop isn't allowed to charge any more than $39 for the inspection. For most workshops that is less than half an hour of labour at their usual rates.

No, NSW is no dramas from what I've seen regarding police, they're pretty decent and NSW roads never commited us to the stupid bits of NCOP. I thought it was the Victorians that got shot. QLD I don't think even have inspections!
    Cheers
