To save me the onerous task of removing my air cleaner, does anyone know the size of the drain which the Vacuator goes onto?
I see a 2inch or 51MM one is on ebay and AFAIK this is the smallest generally available.

Then yours won't shed the water correctly.

Always facing forward, they use the air flowing in to seperate the water droplets from the air by gathering the water on the back of the snorkel head and draining it from the slots around the outside edge.

Can't answer the size question but you can buy a new one from Land Rover, part number PKS100140.

    Hope this helps..

If it makes you feel better, the defender I have has been hard to find fuel for... I asked my mechanic for advice about what engine I should look for - he told me they're all pretty good but make sure I get turbo diesel.

I bought my defender and I've been to 43 different servos since I got it and no one in the country area I live sells turbo diesel, they have premium diesel, I've even seen snow diesel but no turbo diesel... I've been using regular diesel and hope it doesn't void my warranty

My snorkel faces forward permanently. I've driven at 110 Km/H in Torrential rain and haven't seen any sign of water entering the Air Cleaner Box. I think the only time you'd face it backward, is in Snow, to prevent the opening from clogging up.
    Cheers, Billy.

I wonder if there is any truth in the rumour that the Hiclone people are working on developing one.

    Truth is stranger than fiction.

There was an ad on Ebay a while ago for a "rain deflector" which is a couple of brackets and a bit of flat steel that sits in front of the snorkel.
I will see if I can find it.

Looks like it has disappeared into "It seemed like a good Idea at the time"
