    Front a pillar crack query

    Hi all,

I've tried searching and checked the good oil.

Is the D2 susceptible to cracking in the front a pillar windscreen support?

I lost my drivers side a pillar trim the other day on the highway and it appears I have a crack down low on the windscreen support.

Wondering if it is a common occurrence?

    Cheers, Chris

    Seems to be!

The plastic is cheap and gets very brittle.

Have thought about buying replacements and linex'ing them for some strength before installing, the coin is always the problem or lack there of.

A lot of other D2 owners have mentioned to me that their a pillars crack upon removal

Thanks for the quick reply. However I am referring the metal windscreen support not the plastic trim.

    Cheers, Chris

It used to be a problem on 2 door RRCs when hammered over corrugations for untold years.

My 77 cracked and I removed the windscreen and had it welded.

On 4 doors it shifted to the B pillar about 1/2 way down.

I don't think it is very common for Discos, but they are basically the same structure as an RRC so it still could happen I guess.

I believe the turret structure of a D2 is much stronger than an RRC due to the frame around the back door but maybe yours had an accident.

before going to the trouble of removing the snorkle check the passenger side engine mount for failure. I speak from experience
