Lyhoon's D2 write up - warning: long

Thanks Rangieman and V8Ian!

Had some spare time at work today so managed to do some googling then run down to the car to sus out some stuff.

Current situation: I have cdl internals but no cdl linkage and lever.

V8Ian is right, it doesn't come on with tc. no cdl linkage/lever means not being able to switch it on from inside the cabin but I do have the option of climbing out and under to manually engage [emoji23][emoji23]

Time to save for the linkage I guess. I see Ashcroft have one on offer @ ?518. Any others being offered?

But that is very fiddly and you wouldn't want to do that too often when the track is covered in Mud!. There are cheap methods to do it, some have a piece of flat attached to the top of the transfer and it protruded under the sill so they can open the door and pull on it.
Member Jason789 made up a neat way using socket set unis and extension rods, with a small knob poking out of his centre consoles that works a treat . The Ashcroft ones look factory when installed though. Then there are those electric ones made from a modded windscreen wiper motor, but they are unreliable as the fail after getting mud and water through them.

UPDATE:

Finally got around to getting the 16" rims and some bed liner spray paint.

Booking at big rock Toyota for next week done as well, time for some fresh new shoes! Went with BFG KO2's in 235/85r16 for a skinny tall tyre (pictures to come).

Was feeling lazy so dropped the dirty rims off at magic hands for a quick scrub down and went to buy some paint cans. Went with a bed liner type paint for something slightly different in textured appearance but also hoping that it'll mimic linex to an extent in strength.

After sanding the rims down I was going to tape up the centre caps but found that the Land Rover badge needed a little tlc. I found wd-40 and a tea towel helped heaps!

Ordered some tyres off tyresales.com.au for $10 above cost price including fitment and all. Was super stoked to get them fitted however due to stocking issues, I had to wait an extra week for delivery.

The tyre I went with was BFG's KO2 in the 235/85R16 size for a narrow and tall tyre as I had heard this is a good combination so thought I'd bite the bullet.

Not sure what's next. Compared my vin to the thread that been pinned and found out that I don't have cdl internals awhile back so Ive been a little salty about that which has got me pondering lockers. What are people's experiences with lockers? Front or rear/brand/price?

I foresee mostly beach driving but some small trails and climbs for camping and weekend fun are expected. Do I even need lockers?

You will still need a CDL even with lockers.
A CDL should be your first port of call befor anything in my opinion[wink11]

You could pick up a second hand D1 T/C.
This would have all the internals needed or a second hand stuffed D2 T/C with good CDL internals.
Either way you will need a actuator . But this could be as simple as a hard wire under your side step for example.

Is it a like for like swap in terms of the transfer cases?

I've seen the actuator installed and that looks pretty simple but will probably look into the cheap alternatives you and rangerlord off road spares stated earlier.

I started a seperate thread for this as a topic, should I remove that?

Really all you need is the Cdl housing with internals.
Simple as it is on the frt of the T/C so you drop the oil drop frt p/shaft and replace the frt of the T/C refill with oil ect [wink11]

One of these will give you the internals. CDL update kit, it includes the casing
