    Front axle oil slinger

Hi All. While replacing the ball joints on the new truck i have been cleaning inspecting and repacking the CV's, the short side went fine but the long side axle is being a real pain and i have flogged it within a "inch of it's life" with a copper faced 4 kilo hammer and still wont pop.
I have given up on getting the axle out and the only option left is to press the oil slinger off and on to get the new boots on.

Can the slinger be reused or should i order a new one to be on the safe side, has anyone done this successfully.

I am quite surprised how little wear was in the CV joints after 270,000 ks even the grease is clean.

    Thanks Whitey

I don't think there is an oil slinger on these. I suspect you may be referring to the seal shield as the oil slinger. Have a look through this thread Ashcroft HD CV shafts and front diff seals - leaking? for pictures and information on them and their setup.

Thanks for that link it has answered my question, i will make a press block so as not to damage the shield.
A bit of a search i did this morning it looks like the shield can only be bought with the axle.
    Thanks again.

I brought a full set of Ashcroft axles front and rear plus cv's and didn't receive new dust shields, had to reuse old ones.Block of wood with inch and half hole and they come of easy.
