Biggin it depends on your budget, some take the short cut cheap way and just get the heads skimmed.
The proper way would be to have the engine shop pressure test for cracks, hardness test to see if heads have gone soft. If all is ok, they put it in a cleaning bath, strip all the valves and stuff reseat the valves , skim it to make sure its flat, re-asssemble, the last time I had a pair done with new valve stem guides it was about $760. That was Orger Engines, they are expensive but do a thorough job.
