It's been a while, but from memory Elring advise not to use any sealant. I did not on mine using Elring and ARP studs. I think Pedro the Swift used Hylomar on his D2 V8 but I had a feeling he used Cometic gaskets. Cheers
Thanks Dave, it’s a 2002 Discovery 2 with a high compression 4.6L V8 out of a P38a Range Rover. So virtually a standard Disco2 V8 with a 4.6L block.
Do you normally Hylomar the head gasket and intake ports or leave them dry? I think I left them dry last time.
I just happen to have two refurbished heads sitting on the shelf from my old 4.0 so makes sense to swap them over to save a trip to the machine shop. This job must be completed over Easter, ready for a trip the following Friday.

Thanks Ozscott, I only asked the question because Pedro commented to use lots of glue.
The last one I did was definitely dry and was okay until the block split two or so years later.

Head gasket repair completed, with my spare refurbished heads installed, and no more leaks.
I think I will have the heads I just took out refurbished and put those on the shelf for next time. Hopefully that won’t come again too soon.
South Australia here we come.![]()
