As soon as I started the motor afterwards I had fuel going everywhere, disturbing the pipes had caused a leak.
The main reason for trying to 'cheat' was the apparent difficulty getting to the fitting on the pipe that runs to the front of the motor!
I wound up bending an open ended spanner to access the fitting and cutting a slot in a ring spanner to fit it over the pipe. Between the two of them it was not all that hard!!
Don't cheat, do the job properly, that's advice to me not you.
Oh, and the 'did I', did I drop that little filter?
