    Water Bladder Tanks

    Hey there Discoverers,

Has anyone had any experience with bladder tanks for water and/or fuel. e.g. like this:
    FlexiMake

Thinking of getting one made up to go in the rear seat footwell (after removing seats).
The idea of the weight low down and near the centre of the vehicle is appealing. Also an efficient use of space conforming to the available gap.
Less durable than a HDPE or aluminium tank, but easily repairable. And arguably more protected inside the vehicle.

I would plumb a 12v pump in and a couple of outlets. Maybe a small header tank on the roof rack for a bit of static head to save running the pump all the time.

    Thoughts?

I'll be getting one for my cape trip as it's dead space with the little fella not big enough to hang his legs low enough
Fair few mates have them and reckon they're awesome

I have an 85l version which I use for water. Sits on the floor in the passenger foot well. Works well for me. Easier than 4 jerries.

I bought the 85L bladder late last year so I could get rid of carrying 4 jerry cans and to keep the weight low, remembering there's less room in a D1 compared to a D2. The bladder sits in the rear foot wells with the rear seats removed. I protected the bladder by wrapping it using my rear cargo area rubberised mat that I bought from Bunnings, and this took away any chafe points from the bottom of the seats. I figured I didn't need the mat as I had fitted my rear drawers anyway.

Worked an absolute treat on my last trip. I covered 11,500km from Perth to Carnarvon, then dirt roads to Mt Augustus, then more dirt roads to Tom Price, then up to Broome and more dirt roads to Cape Leveque, then back home via the coast. Went on lots of corrugated roads and it held up really well with its impromptu wrap protecting it.

I placed the taps and hoses on the left hand side and just had to open the door to gravity feed the water into any appropriate container. That way I didn't have to worry about pumps. When the water got low I packed some stuff into the right hand side of the footwell to compress the bladder (pushing it to the left like a water ballon) to help it flow easier. Worked well and I can highly recommend these bladders, but I would think about using something firm but flexible to protect it just in case.

I bought the 85L "low profile box type" bladder and found it was a nice fit in the rear footwell of the Disco. Also, to save going to the bladder all the time, I used a 5L water container (with a tap) as my 'go to' source of water for cooking, cleaning, drinking etc. You store that in a handy place and it is easily moveable, so very useful. I usually just topped it up at the end of the day as part of the daily routine. The 5L container also sits nicely on the fold down tray on the rear door card.

I use 2x 20l rectangle drums with taps on them. They're really convenient and you can get them at Kmart.

If I need more water for a big trip then I also have an Engle 50l tank that sits on the floor in front of the back seat. Its also really good to fill in that space so the dog doesn't keep falling in when I hit the brakes.

These look to be a great idea, I have the plastic water jerry's and a couple of the large square water containers from Bunnings but they are a PITA when they are empty to stow.
Definitely going to get one of the bladders to sit in the footwell behind the front seats, It will put the weight in the right place and when empty it wont be in the way like the normal plastic jerry's are.
