    Coolant leak into No 5 exhaust port? TD5.

    I have just taken off the exhaust manifold as part of the job I am doing and there appears to be a redish stain in the gasket area.

    Is anyone aware of leaking coolant into a port other than a head gasket leak, ie; cracking in that area?

    I thought the welch plug was between 3 and 4.... still could be I suppose running along the head, I have had a head leak internally and find it's way into the exhaust manifold however it was clearly evident the coolant had come from inside the head, not external. Could be a minor leak from the top of oil cooler housing maybe , could the small rubber hose connection developed a pin hole leak that is jetting upwards? Carry out a pressure test to confirm.     Welch plug

    Yes the welch plug is between 3 and 4 and is leaking.

    If there is not a 'common' problem with leaks through the port I shall assume ( yeah, I know. Makes an ass out of u and me.) that the coolant has tracked back, but why to five and not four?

    Time will tell, I'm getting faster at getting all the stuff off the side of the motor!
