Installed ARB air locker in rear, now 2 wheel bearings fail one after the other
Hi Folks, for some reason this d2 has given me only weird issues.. nothing has been straight forward. I have used the search function, and searched other web pages but i cannot find a similar issue
Heres what my issue is: I installed an Arb air locker in the rear of my d2. 2000km (approx) after that, my passenger rear hub started spewing oil out on the actual hub seal (not from the O ring between the axle/hub, and not from weeping past the splines on the axle near the large nut). So i replaced it with a aftermarket unit, but when i replaced it i noticed that just as the hub unit seats on the axle housing, the axle stops spinning freely.. almost "notchy". I consult my local rover mechanic and he says that its normal?.he said that that was just the spider gears turning, but it only became notchy just as the hub seated that last 0.5mm into the axle housing?? a few thousand K later this one has gone bad as well, doing the exact same thing
see below:

My guess is that the ARB locker is not allowing the passenger rear half shaft to go into the axle far enough and is putting an outward pre-load on the hub bearing.. causing it to fail prematurely. Has anyone come across this?
I have checked my diff breather, its all clear.
Thanks again everyone, i hope someone can provide some resolve to my issues easily haha.

I think your on the right track it went notchy because you were crushing everything together, check your old hub for distortion it wont be much will need feeler gauges.
You might need to cut a shim as a quick fix or if it was mine i'd grind the axle down but i'm rough like that.
One wheel stud looks dodgy in the photo.
