Hi folks, just checking with those who have done the CSR as to what economy they allowed for/got in your TD5.
We will be 2 people, rear seat removed, but still fully loaded and unfortunately requiring my heavy half roof rack to carry the RV4 - some things are not negotiable for SWAMBO to come, and yes I do want her to enjoy the experience (in August).
I'm initially thinking of 15L/100km, but interested in any significant variations. We are going uphill from Wiluna to Halls Creek.
I have a few mods, but overall normally get about average TD5 fuel use in any given scenario, plus I prefer to be a bit of a nanna driver to preserve the daily driver wee beastie. Around town long term average of 12 - 12.5 L/100 km, highway at 100kpm about 10.75 and at 110 about 12.

To give you some idea I averaged 14.5l/100km on the Holland track last year. My worst consumption figure in 5 years of ownership was 16.5l/100km pulling my van.
My experience with diesels is that in slow going the percentage increase in fuel consumption is a lot less than petrol engines. I reckon using 16-17l/100km for planning purposes would should give you a nice safety margin.
One thing to keep in mind is the load you're carrying. I did a load calc on Charlie last night, for the Central Aust trip, and with fitted accessories, spares, gear and 2 bodies we'll be about 20-40kg under max payload.

Cheers, yes the Holland was a bit easier on fuel than I would expect of the CSR.
Even towing my brick (albeit at 80 kmph) my worst was 18L/100km, so I concur with your figures. My post did not include a safety factor, which I would have added in at the end with additional fuel.

						Mid 15s is what I get running around Moreton/Fraser with the TD5 and mine is v heavy. Worst was just shy 17 when I had to "commute" to/from the barge on Moreton during high tide scenarios .. so pushing soft sand most of the time.
Never done it, so no idea, but I'm curious: "highway at 100" you get 10.75? Is that with or without the roof rack? Mine ( ARB winch bar, no rack ) easily got 10.00 with four adults, their luggage ( not camping gear ) and a 60kg dog. It does have a mild chip, however. You beat me 'round town though, where I have a tendency to use the chip. Mine's an auto.

Mine is an auto too with mild chip, 265 75 oversize tyres, Allard intercooler and the usual decat and de-erg. Have only done the one 500k round trip at 100 (by myself, but a part load). No roof rack, but have double length LR rails with 5 cross bars. Have never touched the boost (but am about to experiment). Looks like we are in the same ballpark, but I'd better use at least 17 to give me a little leeway in addition to a few extra litres.

Tyres are bigger. I have those on the D1, my D2 has 245s. Still has a cat, but de ERG. Boost std. Of course, my figures are simple. The difference could be as simple as different sensitivity on the auto cut off on the bowser. I never really bothered to keep a long term record.

Nanocom, D2 TD5 only.
We're outback atm. Towing a Kimberkey Kamper about 1.5t. Highway and gravel roads doing about 13.5-14L/100km. Birdsville to Innamincka via Walkers Crossing, (about 300km) soft sand, mud, dirt tracks, 20-25km/hr some sections, some 40-50km/hr sections, consumption went to 15.77L/100 ... 2 people, fridge,drawers tools spares clothes dog etc in D2 ... KK on the back ... I'd say 15-16L/100 easy covers it, add a safety margin ... And most of it was in 2nd/3rd, auto, unlocked. 265/70 tyres, std tune, no lift, erg and cat gone and max boost about 20psi.
