    V8 engine Knock Sensor

Anyone ever had to replace one?
    remember the symptoms?

At 100kph (with the caravan on) when asked to "accelerate or die"(not a lesurely speed increase) I can get it to detonate at will
this does not happen in lower gears.
There are no faults recorded in Torque.
I have this pic from RAVE,, but that could be anywhere to me,,

Are you sure it's not fuel quality related?...i dont have much experince in V8's, i've helped friends few times with electrical troubleshooting but that's it, if you want to change them to be ruled out see the operation of knock control in engine management description cos according to that they are between the centre two cylinders of each bank, also in Electrical library - connector views see C0626/0627 cos it's clearer

One on each side of block. Single wire with black connector with, orange seal.

Have not replaced one but they are accessable.

Confused by your post - is it knocking or are you just seeing a code thrown up?

I've replaced one on the P38A - the plastic had disintegrated when it was accidentally knocked.

It's function is to sense vibrations caused by engine knock or detonation. The ECM uses this signal to alter the ignition timing and prevent detonation. It will compare this information with its preset tables to identify a valid knock or ping. If a ping is sensed, it will retard the ignition timing to protect the engine from this damaging pre-ignition.

Without actually sending the fuel away to be tested?
Its always from the same Shell, that is very busy, so it wont be old fuel,,
Is it worth trying an octane booster as a test?

What Compression Ratio do you have and what grade of fuel are you using?

The CR is stamped on the engine number pad on the LH side between cylinders 2 and 3.

If a high compression motor you should use minimum 95 but 98 best.

Hi Pedro,Knock sensors are not a frequently asked for part, so their failure rate must be low.
