    What is this?

My cruise control has never worked and my horn just blows the fuse if I use it.
I have all this extra stuff in the panel below the steering wheel and there are a few connectors just swinging and not connected and I am wondering IF these vacant connectors have something to do with the horn and the non operating cruise control.
I have only had the truck for a couple of years and this stuff was installed by the previous owner.
There is also a small microphone wired in just above the rear vision mirror.

Can I remove all this stuff and restore the wiring to it's original setup without wreaking everything?
Also is this stuff just a "Hands Free" setup for a phone or is it something else entirely?

    Messy, isn't it?

The first pic is of a thing called a Uni Cartalk. An old one. There is, or at least was, probably a phone cradle somewhere. It was an early form of handsfree, a PITA if you changed phones as the cradle was phone specific. The whole concept was destroyed by BlueTooth. You can pretty safely get rid of it, but move carefully and follow wires and cables back and cut them off, or better still disconnect them, where they join the car's original loom. I can't see any reason why they would interfere with cruise, though. Unless someone thought it would be clever to use the cruise buttons to control the phone, which I would think very highly unlikely.
I guess the mic is solely for that handsfree unit, so it could go as well.

Spare plugs aren't uncommon, as different spec cars get different accessories. Without my own car here, I can't say if they are present in mine. What spec is yours? RAVE may have the answers, or better still, Sierrafery might chime in.

What that other box with the extension wire zip tied to it is I have no idea. Could be some sort of module to input MP3 into the radio. I have something like that in mine, but really I'm just guessing. Seems like it would be safe to unplug it and see what happens, as it is clearly not a standard fitment.

When you press the cruise switch on the binnacle, does the light come on in the switch?

could be the speaker for the hands free, as it looks like a elcheapo plastic bracket that the Zip tie is attached to.

Yes the light comes on but that's all that happens.

I will try and remove all the stuff that looks like it shouldn't be there and maybe I can sort the wiring out.
    The truck is a 2004 update "S" model V8.

Hmm. There are so many things that can upset cruise that I'm going to leave it to those who know.

Yes the light comes on but that's all that happens.
    I will rephrase that.
The light comes on at the switch, There is NO icon on the dash coming up.
I have removed all he excess stuff, There was even a cigarette lighter connection wired in with a GPS plug on the end of it.
The truck still starts so it looks like I haven't done any harm

Here is the stuff I took out
    dash5jpg.jpg

Looks a not neater now But I wonder what the connector (out of focus) is that is dangling just under the steering wheel?

Dunno about the update, but my 2000 model only has the light on the switch.

    Much neater.

Once again, I'm guessing, but orange/green could be the plug to the brake light switch for the cruise, if I'm reading RAVE right. Of course, the same colour also went to the clutch pedal switch, which you don't have.
