    td5 central diff lock cost

    Hi fellow Landy lovers

I have decided to insert a diff lock kit into my 1999 series 2 td5. My (limited knowledge) research has led me to believe that this is a good idea for hill climbs, general 4wd driving.

Does anyone have a recommendation for someone to do the work and/or and idea of price I should expect to pay?

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

second hand they are scarecer than hens teeth, but expect $600-$800 for an aftermarket one like an ashcroft.

Where are you located LandWalwa? I a have a 1.2 ratio transfer case that requires a rebuild that could be just what you need, I could rebuild it for you. I could potentially even freight it to you also. Perhaps PM me if you're interested.

Er you already have a diff lock.
It's just not connected with a linkage to the hi-lo lever.
so look up diff lock linkages.
AFAIK only 2002 (mine) didn't have the guts .

All you need is the linkage kit , mate. I purchased mine off MR Auto, fitted it myself, same year vehicle as yours.

I just wrecked a D2a. I sold the linkage for $350. I didn't have time to get the TC out as my wife wasn't happy about not being able to get in the garage in winter, so my time frame expired.

but it was a PIA of a job to remove. The uk disco page how to has it being done with the auto shifter in place. But I don't know how you would do it with it still attached to the plate and cable.

I'm a little bit slow this morning, not sure exactly what you mean. When I fitted the MRauto cable and lever [ their setup has the low/high lever next to the cdl lever, ] I removed the centre console and all above the gearbox. It wasn't easy, and took me some time, but I got there eventually. The one thing that you have to watch out for, is that the plate that attaches the cable to the box, doesn't cover the access to the gearbox oil inlet plug,[ if that makes sense] I didn't find that out until it was assembled, and solved the problem by levering the plate out until I had room to insert the right torx fitting into the inlet plug, after knocking the fitting from the torx socket, then using a spanner on the fitting. A better solution would have been to grind away the plate until you had clear access to the oil inlet plug. Not sure if all that makes sense, but my CDL works, after all that.

I think it would be much easier to remove the top plate of the console by drilling out the 14 or so rivets. That's what I did with mine as I had to change the nose of the TC also.
You have to remove the cable from the XYZ switch and remove the auto lever but it is pretty easy to reinstall as it falls to the same position and you check by running through the gears and making sure the dash is the same as the lever.

I am assuming an auto here.

Drilling out the rivets is the only way to go, for sure. There is a great tutorial at this web site. Just find the right part of the site. Go to off-road add-ons, right at the bottom of the list.
