AFAIR on a D2 it kicks in at about 94C, according to my digital head surface temp gauge.

I think that's where mine has an advantage off-road as it rarely gets about high 80's...never higher in the Cape. Cheers

    D2 viscous fan and water

If you have ever sat in your car while stationary on a hot day that requires you have the air conditioner on (engine running) you will hear the unmistakable roar of the viscous fan. It cuts in and out and if you drop your window it will quickly confirm the sound is from the viscous fan. The fan moves a huge amount of air and the sounds is much louder than any electrical fan could ever achieve.

About 10 years ago while at the Kimberly going back out from the Bunggle Bunggles our group had a D1 200td, defender 300Tdi, 3.9 Isuzu County and a D2. D2 was the only one thatripped into the radiator, blades flexed forward once the water got to the bottom of the blades. No broken blades from memory just a circlular shaped wear mark on the radiator core where the blades ran up agains the radiator. Took around an hour to pull the radiator out and patched it with some metal filled putty. Got back into Kununurra and waited for a new rad to be sent up.

Yes Pete. In Lakefield Nat Park after doing the big day trip right to top of the park and back. I reckon I could have limped into Musgrave for a fill without the 22 litres by a few litres but having the 22 litres made it stress free.

    Cheers
