Here's a tutorial if you want to go that route: DIY: Door Lock Actuator - Internal Motor Replacement - North American Motoring but i doubt a repair like this would last too much cos even if you fix the motor i'm sure that the other mechanical parts are worn enough to make you tricks

I opened mine too after i replaced it thinking to fix it and have a spare but i've given up cos it was a too big play for my taste between the metal parts cos there was a wear where they were riveted together, any way if you go for it see this too: 99-04 Discovery II Door Latch/Actuator Help | Roverland Parts Blog
